Andy Nelson was among a group of community leaders who created Partners in Diversity in the mid-2000s to help attract and retain professionals of color to the Portland-Vancouver region. Andy first ran a Civic Leaders project for PiD, connecting leaders of color with nonprofit boards and government commissions. He chaired the PiD 10-year anniversary event in 2015. Andy's passion is leveraging his 20+ years of experience as a community leader to help create a diverse and equitable region where everyone prospers.   
 
As Associate Director Impact NW, Andy is helping to lead the human service organization's evolution in response to the demographic and economic changes in our community. Impact NW believes that no challenge is too great and that by working with and for community we can help more people realize their dreams. Andy's role is to help create private support for Impact, to fuel efforts such as a youth pathway to manufacturing program, housing and employment support for adults and services that help elders remain independent in their own homes. 
 
In 20 years in the Portland area, Andy has served as CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest and Executive Director of Hands On Greater Portland. Former chair of the Portland Parks Board, Andy serves on the advisory Board of the Institute for Youth Success. A native of New England, Andy earned a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Connecticut and was a 2008 graduate of Leadership Portland. He lives in Northeast Portland with his wife and son.
