Salary Range: $5,220 - $6,869 per month.
Starting salary is $5,220 - $6,351 (depending upon qualifications), plus full benefits package.

Here is an exciting opportunity for an entry level Urban Planner to gain hands-on experience!
The City of Hillsboro is looking for a four month (with a one year extension subject to council approval) limited duration, entry level planner in its Long Range Planning Division. In this position, you will get hands on experience in projects including:
• Updating the City’s Transportation System Plan
• Community Plans
• Comprehensive Plan Implementation

You will also have the opportunity to assist on current planning projects, thus broadening your experience.

The Planning Department is looking for an exceptional person who enjoys working in a highly collaborative environment to serve our community and organization as a Planner in the Long-Range Division. Our division is involved with many different types of planning opportunities. We are working with our Transportation division to update the City’s Transportation System Plan. We are also developing several community plans, working on design districts, and developing projects/programs to implement the City’s recently adopted Comprehensive Plan. You will also have opportunity to delve into policy subjects of city, county and regional concern, such as growth management, transportation planning and environmental issues.

Skills you’ll bring to the table:
• Creative and innovative thinking
• Graphic design (InDesign, Photoshop)
• Basic understanding of state and regional planning structure
• Project coordination

General Statement of Duties
The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform entry and journey level professional routine current planning work. Responsibilities include reviewing, researching and processing planning and development applications, plans, amendments, variances, and related documents; conferring with other divisions, applicants and external agencies to resolve project issues; interpreting and communicating codes, laws and regulations, ensuring compliance with applicable standards; providing support and giving presentations to the community and governing groups; preparing code amendments; preparing drawings, plans, studies, reports, and other related documents.

Acceptable Experience and Training
Bachelor’s degree in Regional Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, Geography or related field and, as assigned, up to two years of municipal planning related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

• Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.
