: Head Teacher is primarily responsible for the daily care, education and recreation of children. They are to provide emergent, child-directed, developmentally appropriate activities for children and must initiate and foster positive guidance and behavior management practices for children. The Head Teacher is responsible for volunteer supervision and modeling for teachers while engaging with children in the room. The Head Teacher is the Substitute On-site Director when the Program Coordinator and the Administrative Teacher are unavailable or are on breaks and lunches. It is their responsibility to maintain a high level of morale for the center and must be able to engage and effectively communicate with parents/guardians, volunteers, and other staff members.
This position requires at least two years of experience in a licensed childcare facility working with ages 6 weeks to 12 years of age, AA or BA in Early Childhood Education or related field is preferred. This position requires a reasonable combination of the following skills and abilities: strong interpersonal skills, effective classroom management and problem solving skills, positive verbal and written communications, cultural competency, good time management and organization, sense of humor, ability to quickly engage children, a nurturing approach when interacting with children and parents. Also, a reasonable combination of experience in the following areas: early childhood education, child care programs, social services, and supervision experience. This position requires the ability to lift and carry children up to fifty (50) pounds and have sufficient mobility to maintain a level of supervision to insure children’s safety. Teachers must also be physically able to squat, sit on the floor, and reach items on high shelves.
