The Role:

This is a multi-dimensional position requiring a varied skill set and a dynamic individual who can operate in community affairs, government relations and marketing. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining sales/marketing programs, and establishing essential relationships and linkages with dealers/builders, customers, local government and community leaders.

Day to Day:

Establishes and maintains strong relationships with civic, business and government/regulatory entities.
Analyze and evaluate energy, operational, and political issues involving local governments to determine strategy/intervention to enhance the Company’s and customers’ business interests.
Coordinate strategic involvement with community leaders, jurisdictional representatives and government officials.
Plans and executes company participation in community events and local corporate sponsorships. Negotiates participation benefits and analyzes the cost vs. benefit of participation.
Coordinates in-kind community event support through the use of NW Natural’s event canopies and mobile cook wagon. Organizes volunteers to help set canopies and prepare meals at community events.
Develops and maintains positive relationships with gas equipment dealers and home builders.
Responsible for developing, implementing and managing short and long-term sales and marketing projects. Manages effectiveness of the plans. Manages and tracks program performance.
Provides advice, coaching, feedback and counsel to vendors and trade allies.
Advises current and potential customers by gathering relevant information, identifying potential alternatives, judging the feasibility of each alternative from a company and customer perspective, and making recommendations.
Develops communication, promotion and sales programs to train, inform, and support contractors and equipment vendors.
Supports Company’s commitment to a culture of safe work practices.
Operates vehicle on Company business in compliance with state/local laws and Company policies and procedures.
This position will require some travel.
Come on your first day with:

A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of community/government/public relations/sales experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Marketing experience a plus.
Strong problem solving skills to develop innovative solutions to complex issues; resourceful in adapting existing knowledge and experience to tackle new projects.
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) as well as strong interpersonal skills. Must have ability to establish trust and maintain confidence with various stakeholders.
Proven ability to work with all levels of an organization with tact, confidentiality and diplomacy to develop and maintain collaborative efforts.
Proven experience in conducting group meetings with customers, community representatives and trade allies. Requires good public presentation skills and experience with Microsoft PowerPoint is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to mediate and resolve problems between internal and external stakeholders through negotiation and persuasion.
Demonstrated ability to define problems, select and organize information, present recommendations and identify alternative solutions.
Must be a team-oriented individual who can build consensus, collaborate with both internal and external partners and work across boundaries to achieve results.
A self-directed individual with a demonstrated ability to perform with minimal supervision.
Ability to create, track and manage an area budget based on departmental and engagement priorities.
Attention to detail and advanced computer skills and the ability to apply them to various Company systems and word-processing, spreadsheet and data base applications.
Possess/maintain a valid Oregon/Washington driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
Ability to secure an approved food handlers permit.
Must be available to work the occasional evenings and weekends.
Experience with one or more of the following: sales of products and services, market research, account management, product development, and sales strategy functions would be important.
Experience or familiarity with community groups, trade associations, jurisdictions, regulatory/government organizations and non-profit entities.
Knowledge of NW Natural’s products and services. Ability to learn and apply knowledge of natural gas equipment and its applications, supply conditions, competitive advantages and availability.
General knowledge of the Company’s business, regulatory and political environment.
Residential construction industry and/or HVAC and hearth industry knowledge is a plus.
Knowledge of Company policies/procedures for the installation of gas mains/services and mechanical codes and practices for the installation of gas equipment preferred but not required.

Base salary Range– Min. $67,000 (*$ 73,850 to $92,700) Max. $97,150
