Friends of the Children Portland’s Board of Directors is looking for an extraordinary leader to take the helm of our already-successful organization and lead us to the next level.

For 25 years, our model has been proven to break the cycle of generational poverty for our most vulnerable children facing the greatest challenges. Thanks to our exceptional outcomes and relationships in the community, Friends of the Children has been ranked the #1 Most Admired Non-Profit in Oregon and SW Washington by the Portland Business Journal for three consecutive years.

Friends of the Children Portland is at an exciting point in our trajectory. We are celebrating 25 years of impact in Portland and building the foundation for the next 25 years. We have just launched a five-year strategic plan that will expand and enhance our program capacity and sharpen our focus on our program data to inform youth service and empower youth to achieve their long-term self-sufficiency goals.

Our next Executive Director will be a dynamic and engaging leader and spokesperson for the organization. They will excel at sustaining meaningful relationships with corporate and community leaders, motivating staff and communicating the urgency of our mission and success of our outcomes. They will be a passionate advocate for children and for breaking the cycle of generational poverty for the highest priority youth in our community.

The ideal candidate will have a smart head for business and a soft heart for kids. They will be equally skilled at cultivating financial support, leading and implementing strategic plans, partnering effectively with the board, donors, staff, and community partners, reviewing financial statements, and overseeing program delivery and ongoing evaluation.

The right leader will be fiercely committed to equity and will ensure that every aspect of the organization’s mission is executed with full engagement of communities impacted by our work.

Are you this amazing leader? Here’s what we have to offer you:

An engaged, motivated Board that works hard, gives generously, and raises funds.
A strong, cohesive leadership team committed to innovation and high standards.
A team of talented employees who are passionate about working together to create an extraordinary organization.
Respect for work-life balance. You’ll work hard, and we expect you to recharge your batteries.
A comprehensive benefit package.
Most of all, you get to lead an exceptional organization that helps children facing incredible odds change their life story every day.

At Friends of the Children – Portland you get to think globally and act locally. We are the founding chapter of a national network now serving youth in fifteen locations in the United States and the UK. As Portland ED, you’ll work in partnership with the National President and the National office, which is co-housed in our NE Portland office. You’ll also work with a talented team of leaders from the other sites, who collaborate to promote and grow the model and its impact.
