Wahl and Associates has been retained to assist one of Portland’s largest and fastest
growing non-profits find its first Director of Finance. This position is the result of the
rapid growth of the organization and success of its programs and staff. A strategic
assessment of the organization was conducted, which identified the need to create a
strong financial leadership position for the organization, to work collaboratively with the
Executive Director and Deputy Director to lead the organization.

The mission of Latino Network is to provide transformative opportunities, services and
advocacy for the education, leadership and civic engagement of youth, families and

influence policy.

The ideal candidate will have a proven record of success in leading the finance and
accounting functions of a dynamic, growing non-profit. In addition to expertise in
finance, s/he will bring broad knowledge of other key functions as they intersect with
finance, including human resources, program operations, development, and

Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Director of Finance will be responsible for leading
the financial operations of the organization, including establishing policies, and systems
to achieve program and strategic objectives for a fast-paced organization with an annual
budget of $8 million. As a member of the senior management team, the director will be
involved in managing the day-to-day accounting, strategic planning of the organization
and will lead the development of the annual budget. S/he will develop staff and
organizational capacity in the key areas of finance and financial reporting, accounting,
forecasting and long-range planning.

Finance and Accounting
• Provides clear, timely financial information and analysis to the Executive Director,
board, and program directors
• Serves as the primary liaison to the Board Finance Committee
• Develops & manages monthly financial systems & statements
• Performs month-end close process and overseas day-to-day accounting and payroll
• Continuously improves internal financial controls and efficiencies
• Plans, coordinates, and executes the annual budget process, provides budget
support/training for Program Directors
• Manages cash flow, investments and banking relationships
• Overseas administration of employee payroll and benefit plans
• Provides financial information for new grant submissions
• Support the Deputy Director in the execution of internal operational goals to ensure
annual objectives are achieved; works with Executive Director and Deputy Director
to develop and implement financial programs to meet strategic plan goals
• Works with Executive Director and Development Director on strategic marketing and
communications to build on the organization’s reputation and donor base
• Monitors and manages fiscal and budgetary compliance with program delivery
contracts and grants; oversees audit
• Fosters a strong sense of problem solving, partnership and integration among all

• Supervises Staff Accountant and A/P Coordinator

• Entrepreneurial and visionary team player with the ability to impact operations at
both strategic and tactical levels; committed to the mission and values of the
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related area (advanced
degree or CPA preferred)
• Five plus years of experience managing the financial operations for a non-profit,
foundation, or business, including experience with budgeting, accounting,
payroll/benefits, and financial reporting; knowledge of generally accepted accounting
principles for non-profits; strong MS Office skills, including advanced Excel skills
• Five plus years of progressive, hands-on experience managing the daily finance of a
non-profit, foundation, or business. Experience should include managing personnel,
interfacing with Board of Directors
• Excellent management skills; able to influence and engage direct and indirect
reports and peers; demonstrates leadership in a collaborative, inclusive team
• Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills, including the ability to
interface with staff, board of directors, and community partners
• Technologically savvy; experience working with financial databases and systems
• Self-reliant, resourceful, energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive;
demonstrates integrity, credibility, and commitment to organization’s mission
• Sound judgment and creative problem-solving skills including negotiation and conflict

• Regularly work in the office and in the community as needed
• Evening and weekend availability may be required
• Reliable transportation required. Automobile, driver’s license, and automobile
liability insurance preferred; must be eligible to be an insured driver under
organization’s Commercial Auto Liability Insurance (or become eligible within three
months of date of hire)
• Undergoing and passing criminal background check is required
