South Puget Sound Community College seeks candidates for the 2018-2019 academic year to fill a full-time tenure track position in the Culinary Arts Program. This position will begin effective September 10, 2018.

Essential Functions and Duties:
Faculty members will work with other faculty, staff, and administrators to
• Craft contextualized and integrated learning experiences to meet stated student learning outcomes at the course, program and college-level
• Create and facilitate authentic integrated learning experiences for students in the areas of Culinary Arts so that students can apply their learning to the world of work and further education
• Create authentic assessments of students’ knowledge, skills and abilities in Culinary Arts, the Culinary Arts program, and college abilities
• Apply multiple teaching and learning strategies that promote the affective, cognitive and kinesthetic domains of learning
• Use local, state, and national data and analytics to continuously improve strategies for student success
• Advise students regarding academic pathways and courses needed to reach each student’s academic goals
• Use a wide range of learning resources, tools and technologies to improve access and student success in higher education
• Oversee instruction and preparation of culinary products in a quality manner within budgetary limits; work as part of a collaborative team to facilitate the operation of multiple culinary retail operations including the Percival Room, the Clipper Café, and catering services.
• Remain current with culinary trends and breakthroughs and incorporate them into the curriculum
• Possess knowledge to perform at a high skill level in regard to hospitality management as well as cold foods and garde manger, hot food production, and molecular gastronomy.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the culinary industry.
• Associates Degree in Culinary Arts or closely related field.
• Ability to provide and teach culinary skills, culinary theory, and operations and maintenance of kitchen equipment in a structured lecture and lab environment
• A Washington State Professional Technical Vocational Certificate or ability to become vocationally certificated, which requires at least two (2) years of applicable experience within the last 5 years
• A current Thurston County Food handler’s Permit or the ability to obtain a Thurston County Food Handler’s Permit
• Proficiency with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Experience successfully instructing adult learners such as industry workers or students
• Recent industry experience
• Experience with ordering consumables and inventory tracking
• ServSafe certification
• A.C.F. certification (ability to be certified within one year of hire)
• Experience as a chef or manager in a food service operation
