Staff Pharmacist (On-Call)

General Summary: The Staff Pharmacist verifies the work of pharmacy technicians and ensures accuracy of all orders fulfilled by Vetsource Home Delivery Pharmacy. This position involves clinical review of prescriptions, communication with veterinarians and pet owners, and verification of prescription orders being shipped from the pharmacy. Candidates should have a skillset that balances the precision of distributive tasks with the nuances of customer service and drug information skills. Previous experience in veterinary pharmacy is not required but candidates should have a passion for learning and be highly adaptable.

Essential Duties:

First Order Verification
Responsible for thorough and accurate clinical drug utilization review of new and refill prescriptions
Verify the prescription entry work of pharmacy technicians and interns
Pharmacy Customer Service Support
Confirm telephonic prescription authorizations with veterinary staff
Perform drug information consultations with pet owners, veterinarians, their staff
Perform clinical follow up with veterinary staff for prescribing errors, i.e. wrong dosage, dose high/low, drug interactions, etc
General problem solving with pet owners, veterinarians, and pharmacy staff
Final Order Verification
Verify the work of pharmacy technicians and interns, including the accuracy of orders being shipped to pet owners (product scan and label review)
Verify the accuracy of medications packaged in compliance packaging
Other projects may be assigned related to regulatory tasks, drug information resources, and staff education

Experience and Qualifications:

Current pharmacist license in Oregon, must be in good standing
Minimum of 2 years working as a licensed pharmacist
Ability to work in a fast-paced & rapidly changing environment

Team building skills: should be positive, respectful, approachable
Dispensing skills: should be accurate, efficient, detail oriented, and dependable

Maintains a positive, supportive, and professional demeanor with clinics, pet owners, and coworkers
Excellent adherence to policies & procedures; demonstrates precision and good judgment in all tasks
Must possess a thorough knowledge of state and federal pharmacy rules & laws
Highly adaptable with a strong desire to learn new processes and technologies
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively listen and communicate information in a clear and friendly manner
Must be skilled at guiding the work and mentoring the development of pharmacy technicians and interns
Experienced using email, G Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.), Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word; Solid computer skills are required, including the ability to learn how to navigate new programs quickly
B.S. or PharmD in Pharmacy
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Responsible for the dispensing activities of pharmacy technicians as required by law
Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates should be comfortable in a high volume dispensing environment
Previous experience in the veterinary industry is helpful, including compounding for veterinarians
Candidates should want to learn and work in a specialized pharmacy environment, and appreciate the rewards of continuing education
Should have a genuine interest in developing their skills as a mentor
Should identify strongly with our company values and mission
Working conditions:

Ability to sit or stand for shift work & perform work involving light physical effort
Ability to work on repetitive tasks and maintain focus
Ability to adapt and self-direct in response to changing needs and deadlines
Ability to work Saturdays
Tolerance for an environment where dogs may be present (office areas only)
