Parent-Child Specialist

Part-time: 40hrs/week Non-exempt

Reports to: Manager of Youth and Family Services



Project UNICA is a program within El Programa Hispano Catolico that provides prevention and intervention services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The goal of the program is to provide support, advocacy, and opportunity for self-empowerment that enables survivors to exercise free and informed life choices. Project UNICA operates the UNICA Crisis Line, which is the first and only 24-hour DV/SA Crisis Line in Spanish in Multnomah County and the state of Oregon.



POSITION SUMMARY:

The PCHIP Advocate delivers services and support to parents and the community through quality and community specific parent education. This is a Bilingual case management position that focuses on providing anti-oppressive, strength based, and culturally specific case management for Latino survivors of domestic/sexual violence.



PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide crisis intervention services and advocacy for Latina survivors of domestic violence with children through various in-person visits in accordance to funding requirements.
Assess domestic violence survivor's needs/strengths, parenting skills, develop personalized safety plans, improve children's safety and determine appropriate plan of action for resolution.
Monitor and report participants' parenting skills, implement child behavior assessments and complete all benchmarks and reporting requirements as stated by contract.
Plan and provide crisis intervention groups, parenting education and domestic violence groups. Traveling to various locations to implement groups.
Attend weekly meetings with Latino Child Specialist for group preparation and progress report.
Advocate for Latina women with outside agencies and government system (i.e. Courts, Social Security, Immigration, DMV, DHS, and others as needed).
Participate in community meetings with other social service organizations to promote the agency as an identifiable resource for survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence and maintain timely and cooperative contact with outside agencies.
Cover crisis line shifts, and rotate "back-up" responsibilities with the team.
Facilitate presentations to the community about domestic violence and its impacts on children.
Adherence to El Programa Hispano Catolico policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Must be bilingual (Spanish/English) and bi-culturally competent.
Ability to communicate concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing in Spanish and English.

Bachelor's degree or two years of social service equivalent experience required.
Must have strong anti-oppression understanding and how it relates to domestic violence / sexual assault and its effects on children.
40 hour DV/SA Advocacy training.
Experience working with a broad range of situations affecting Latinos/Communities of Color in the community especially as it relates to surviving domestic and sexual violence.
Demonstrated experience in facilitating and delivering trainings and presentations.
Experience with community networking and organizing.
Intermediate proficiency in all programs of Microsoft Office; data entry and report tracking required.
Demonstrate judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
Must be able to organize and prioritize work, be proactive, take initiative, follow through, and simultaneously manage multiple priorities to ensure goals are met in a timely manner. High attention to detail required.
Willingness to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities.
Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills.

Ability to work well in team setting, as well as independently; be flexible and adapt well to different dynamics in a fast paced work environment.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, which could include some evenings and weekends.

Ability to support organizational and program specific mission and goals.

Ability to lift 40 pounds.

Must have driver's license, access to vehicle and ability to obtain automobile insurance at levels required by agency (100/300/100). This position will require travel in the Tri-County area.
Satisfactory results from civil, criminal and motor vehicle background check required.



COMPENSATION: The pay rate range for this position is $16.00-$17.00/hr. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience.
