Highly coveted department head house position available at Portland'5 Centers for the Arts. This key position in a robust arts environment offers great benefits in a fast-paced and exciting theatrical setting.
The Department Head Stagehand – Flyrail position functions as a working supervisor and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the flyrail department operations including, maintenance, repair, fabrication, handling, setting, striking, dismantling, safety and operation of all flyrail, pinrail and rigging equipment comprising part of the stage or used on stage. Under the supervision of the production supervisor or the assistant production supervisor, the department head supervises the use of house and user equipment and installation of user equipment. Workload varies with each theatre and show and includes collaborating with show personnel and management representatives to meet show needs. Manages the work of Flyrail Department personnel, and ensures adherence to stage safety procedures in all departments. This position works primarily in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, home to our resident company the Oregon Symphony.

High School diploma or GED and five years experience in stage trades, including three years of experience as a stage properties person, or any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills and ability required to perform the job. Possession of, or the ability and willingness to obtain, a current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certificate and ETCP certification.
