Oregon Episcopal School is seeking a skilled, passionate, and culturally competent educator to teach in its Lower School. The teacher will follow OES standards and methods for instruction. He or she should have a gift for promoting curiosity and the exploration of ideas and concepts while fostering an appreciation for lifelong learning. In addition to the qualifications detailed below, the successful Lower School teacher candidate will possess the ability to cultivate in students the core OES values of community, social responsibility, and respect for individual differences. He or she be able to support the OES educational mission and have experience working with students and families from diverse backgrounds.

• Develop an intellectually challenging and creative program with developmentally appropriate and research-based practices.
• Implement an academically strong, inquiry-based and differentiated curriculum.
• Individualize instruction and educate the whole child.
• Be responsible for teaching in a self contained classroom.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues in a spirit of openness and cooperation.
• Use a variety of best curricular approaches including reading workshop, writing process, experiential learning, cycle of inquiry, and conceptual and manipulative-based math approaches.
• Utilize a variety of instructional and assessment methods.
• Integrate technology to support student learning.
• Develop a familiarity with a framework for understanding students’ individual strengths, affinities, and challenges.
• BA/BS in relevant discipline
• 3 years of classroom teaching experience
• Strong background in differentiated literacy, math instruction, and child development
• Previous team teaching experience
• Intercultural competence, ability to teach diverse groups of students effectively and to interact appropriately with a diverse array of students, coworkers, family members;
• IT skills: general digital literacy, intermediate to advanced MS Office Suite, database skills, web applications including Google Docs, Zoom or Skype, etc. as appropriate to job duties
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
• 5 years of classroom teaching experience
• MA/MS in relevant discipline
• Experience in an independent school setting
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of educational technology; openness to innovation, willingness to learn as digital tools evolve, ability to integrate evolving IT into curriculum
• Interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team setting using team-based and collaborative approaches; ability to exercise patience, good humor, tact, discretion, and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive circumstances, ability to maintain collegial relations with colleagues
• Organizational skills, ability to effectively manage multiple tasks as well as the flexibility to meet job requirements beyond the school day and the school year
• Flexibility, ability to employ a balanced approach to assisting students and their parents and establishing and maintaining a rapport with students and families
• Primarily classroom environment, ability to sit at computer and keyboard for moderate periods
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis
• Mobility sufficient to move about the campus and to assure the safety of young children
• Ability to see, hear, and speak to interact with students, parents, and groups of individuals
