The Role:

NW Natural and OPEIU, Local 11 adopted a partnership approach to their labor management relationship that promotes win/win solutions that focus on "doing what’s right" for the customers, the employees, the company, and the Union. In this position, you will hold a critical role supporting this partnership, by providing advanced professional consultation, facilitation, investigation, coaching and research support for developing and implementing Employee and Labor Relations policies, practices and decisions.

Day to Day:

Guides and assists management and employees on a wide variety of human resources issues and concerns, including employee engagement, discipline, conflict management, performance management, and discrimination/harassment, to ensure fair treatment of employees, and compliance with Company policies, applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations, and the collective bargaining agreement.
Investigates complaints, issues and concerns regarding Company policies and employment practices. Coordinates with other departments to ensure appropriate level of investigation. Ensures appropriate documentation is maintained. Partners with legal counsel to ensure consistency and compliance as needed.
Performs advanced research and analysis of Employee Relations and Labor Relations policies and procedures, and develops recommendations.
Manages or participates in both HR and company short and long-term projects, including being a resource to standing and ad-hoc joint labor-management committees and supporting negotiations. Assists in the development and implementation of the HR Strategic Plan.
Provides support to the labor-management partnership including the application and interpretation of the Joint Accord (collective bargaining agreement) in keeping with the philosophy and intent of this relationship. Assists in the resolution of disputes through a variety of resolution methods. Models collaborative behavior and guides others in interest-based problem solving.
Develops and maintains mutual, respectful and trusted relationship with management, employees and union representatives. Engages with union and management to stay abreast of current and future employee relations and labor relations issues to proactively address changes or concerns.
Occasional (typically, once per quarter) overnight travel.
Facilitates activities involving employees, management and union partners to address employee and/or union work-related problems that adversely affect employee engagement and productivity.
Develops and conducts Employee Relations and Labor Relations management and supervisory training.
Supports Company’s commitment to a culture of safe work practices.
Come on your first day with:

Bachelor’s degree with a major in business, human resources, labor relations or equivalent discipline/experience.
8-10 years’ experience (recent experience preferred) in labor and/or employee relations and a working knowledge of other human resources disciplines.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees, resolve difficult situations, conduct appropriate interventions, facilitate problem-solving activities, and remain calm under pressure.
Skill and experience in handling human resources situations with confidentiality, sensitivity, and discretion while providing clear and concise direction.
Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, regulations and court decisions applicable to employee and labor relations.
Knowledge of the principles, practices and laws of labor relations, including negotiation and contract administration practices.
Demonstrated organizational abilities to manage multiple projects/work initiatives simultaneously.
Strong writing skills, including process documentation and report preparation.
Demonstrated experience in research methods and data analysis techniques.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team member within and across organizational lines to achieve company goals.
Demonstrated collaborative and creative problem solving and thinking skills.
Ability to exercise independent judgment and take initiative within established guidelines.

Base salary Range– Min. $79,450 (*$87,600 to $110,000) Max. $115,200

*Expected Hiring Range
