This position is located in the Office of Accountability, Research & Information Services (ARIS) of the Oregon Department of Education (ODE). Information Service's (IS) primary functions are the support of technology to deliver on initiatives and meet ODE's technology needs in support of the ODE mission. The technical expertise of staff in this unit are available to districts to support business and financial functions. IS affects all internal staff and every school, program, school district and education service district in the state. Nearly all students in the State of Oregon public school system are affected by the work in this unit.
We are recruiting for one permanent, full-time Information Systems Specialist 8. This position is located in Salem, Oregon and is classified and represented by Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
Minimum qualifications for an ISS8 position are:
Seven (7) years of information systems experience.
An Associate's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related
field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information
technology or related field; AND 5 years of information systems experience.
A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; AND
three (3) years of information systems experience.
Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field; AND one (1) year of information systems experience.

ISS 8 - Requested Skills - We are looking for candidates who have the following:
Strong understanding of routing and switching technologies; VLANs, VRF's, QOS, trunking, spanning-tree, Ethernet switching and routing protocols.
Working knowledge of security firewalls, network switching, routing and how they work together.
Working knowledge and understanding of security, such as IPSEC tunnels, VPNs and firewalls.
Working knowledge with MS Azure and other cloud based systems.
Skilled in large-scale Network architecture.
Understanding of IP addressing.
Understanding of 802.11 wireless network technologies.
Outstanding project management skills.
Ability to provide technical leadership for IS technical staff in the development, testing, and implementation of technical environments, hardware, software, and infrastructure.
Ability to provide hands-on assistance for systems administrators on mission-critical servers & systems.
Performs troubleshooting of computers and components key to ODE IT Operations systems.
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to write clear, concise technical documentation
