The Engineering and Construction Services (ECS) and the Operations (OPS) division are currently recruiting for Engineering Technician III's (ET III's). This classification is the highest level class within the Engineering Technician series and performs highly complex technical assignments.

The ECS division is responsible for inspections of multi-million dollar transportation improvements projects. Technicians should be familiar with the inspection of complex retaining walls and bridge construction activities; quality assurance of bridge and transportation structures such as foundations, falsework, temporary shoring, structural concrete, substructure and superstructure, and project coordination with various contractors, suppliers, engineers/surveyors, and material testers. Interested candidates should also understand signal system component inspections such as pole and controller layout, conduit and backfill, signal foundations and drilled shafts, fiber interconnect system installation and splicing, illumination, and in-ground electrical inspection. Knowledge and experience in numerous phases of construction and inspection of large diameter underground systems such as water, sewer, storm drain, and gas, is desirable.

The OPS division is responsible for inspections of development related to road improvements, asset inventory, Right-of-Way permits, emergency response, and contract inspection. Technicians should be familiar with roadway construction activities such as excavation, sidewalks, drainage, paving, traffic control, and other related activities. Technicians should also know how to operate tools and equipment associated with roadway construction such as basic survey equipment, distance measuring devices, and other related equipment. Other necessary skills include computer skills and the ability to safely operate full size passenger vehicles and pickups.

Education and Experience
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Four (4) years increasingly responsible experience in road construction, inspection, or civil or traffic engineering; OR
An Associate's Degree in civil engineering or related field; AND
Two (2) years of responsible experience in road construction, road construction inspection, construction management, civil engineering, traffic engineering, or surveying.
