Volunteer with SMART® and help children discover the joy of reading! We need volunteers for our program at Applegate Head Start. SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) is an early literacy nonprofit that envisions an Oregon in which every child can read and is empowered to succeed. We engage community volunteers to help PreK-third grade children become confident readers by providing one-on-one literacy support, valuable adult mentorship, and books for the children to keep. Volunteer to read for one hour per week from now through mid-May as a SMART Reader! Applications accepted year-round. PreK: Your role: Help kids discover the joy of reading. Read one-on-one with two different children for 30 minutes each (1 hour total) from now until May. If you're unable to commit to a weekly session, apply to be a substitute reader. Standard: Your role: Help kids discover the joy of reading. Read one-on-one with four different children for 15 minutes each (1 hour total) from now until May. If you're unable to commit to a weekly session, apply to be a substitute reader. Join us and Start Making A Reader Today! SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) is an early intervention literacy program of the Oregon Children's Foundation.
