After completing my MS I decided to take the challenge of expanding my training opportunities outside of my home country. I initially moved to US in late 2023 to Tampa, Florida, where I was accepted as a PhD student in the cancer biology program. One year and a half later, my laboratory team transferred to Portland, Oregon to continue our work in cancer research. My decisions to move have been guided for the motivation to keep growing professionally and as an individual. Portland has been a great and welcoming city that has allowed us to keep focusing on our research, while sharing time and serving the community.
I’d love to learn from others’ experience, about what’s one piece of guidance or perspective they wish to had received earlier in their professional journey. I’m working on improving my communication and networking skills, specially across different areas of work. I'm interested in any courses, communities, or strategies that would help you grow in this area, and to know what are the interest and motivation of the community.
I come from Latin America, so I understand how difficult it is to find a feeling of belonging in a new environment that does not know about you traditions. The type of civic connection that I would interest in participating are those that would allow me to honor our different outbringing's and share experiences and help for those already here and those to come.
