ALDER COMMONS Alder Commons is a brand-new nonprofit learning community opening in NE Portland in early 2020, where people of all ages can take classes and workshops, and spend their time freely. The educational model is rooted in self-directed education; all learning opportunities are optional and based on every person’s own interests. The core values of the organization are built to create a safe and inclusive space for learners and community members of all ages and backgrounds: - Consent - Children’s Rights - Racial and Social Justice - Equity and Inclusion - Diverse community - Liberation and Anti-Oppression If you’re interested in learning more about our philosophy, please visit our website at aldercommons.org/philosophy. BOARD RECRUITMENT As we gear up to open our doors in Spring 2020, we’re looking to transition our Board to be more representative of the Northeast Portland community where we will be operating. We are committed to diversity and especially encourage applicants from underrepresented communities, such as people of color, LGBTQ community members, people with lived experience in low-income communities, and individuals who are differently abled, to apply. People who are local to NE Portland are also especially encouraged to apply! If you’re interested in joining the Alder Commons Board of Directors, even if you’ve never served on a Board before, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line “Board of Directors,” and a description of why you’re interested in joining the Board. This is a volunteer position.
