Board of Directors - Overview Portland Streetcar, Inc. (PSI) is a private non-profit 501(c)3 formed for the charitable purpose of promoting modern streetcar service in Portland, and across America. A majority of PSI’s work is performed in partnership with the City of Portland, which owns the streetcar system, and TriMet, which provides trained operators and mechanics to support the system. PSI staff are responsible for managing community affairs for streetcar as well as providing guidance and oversight for schedules, ticketing, budget, long-range capital planning and development of the public/private partnerships required to support the system. The PSI Board of Directors is made up of a mix of public and private partners interested in promoting a successful and sustainable transit system. The Board has twenty-two positions including a Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. Board Directors are elected to three-year terms beginning July 1 of each year with the Board divided into three evenly populated election dates. Board Directors are expected to attend bi-monthly meetings of the Board of Directors (1.5 hours) to provide oversight and guidance to the PSI Executive Director on streetcar operations, long range planning, communications, fare policy, and other items; Board Directors are encouraged to assist the organization in a variety of ways including: - Participation in a PSI Board sub-committee (current committees include Planning & Projects, Governance, and Equity, Advocacy & Communications) - Join PSI staff at public or private meetings to promote streetcar and share history of the organization; - Assist in recruitment of new voices to support streetcar in Portland including development of future Board members; and - Represent streetcar in a variety of settings including through neighborhood or business associations, political venues, public speaking or other events. 2018 Recruitment for new Directors Portland Streetcar, Inc. (PSI) will have three vacant Director positions effective July 1, 2018. The PSI Board Governance Committee prioritized the following attributes for filling the vacant Director positions as soon as is practicable: - Interest in promoting and growing Portland Streetcar’s presence in the community including both capital expansion as well as through community partnerships and communications. - Representative from a community or community group presently underrepresented by the PSI Board including communities of color, women, youth or persons with disabilities. - Representative of Northwest Portland with an emphasis on promoting a longplanned streetcar extension to Montgomery Park. - Interest or background in any of the following: o Community organizing or community development o Local politics and planning processes o Land use and transportation planning o Affordable housing supply and demand o Community benefit agreements o Transit fare policy o Capital infrastructure financing and funding o Organizational development o Development of minority contracting opportunities o Other skills used to develop and promote equity in our community.
