Grants of $10,000 and $3,500 for writers and publishers in Oregon
Deadline to apply: Friday, August 2, 2019

Literary Arts will award a new fellowship in 2020: the Oregon Literary Career Fellowships: two fellowships of $10,000 will be given to Oregon writers of exceptional talent. One of these $10,000 fellowships is reserved specifically for a writer of color. These larger grants provide meaningful support to an outstanding writer who will be significantly impacted by the award.

The Oregon Literary Fellowships will award nine writers and two publishers with fellowships of $3,500 each. This financial support helps working artists develop or complete literary projects, and publicly acknowledges their exceptional work.
One of these fellowships is reserved specifically for a writer of color.

Applications for the 2020 Oregon Literary Fellowships are available online. There is no fee to apply. Applications are due on Friday, August 2, 2019. Writers and publishers who are current, full-time Oregon residents are eligible, and we especially encourage emerging writers to apply.

As part of the application, writers can choose to be considered for the Writer of Color Fellowships. Literary Arts will award two fellowships this year specifically for Writers of Color. These fellowships  are designed to promote perspectives from a variety of cultural, ethnic, and racial backgrounds, and to encourage diverse writers to apply for Oregon Literary Fellowships.

Literary Arts will host several drop-in sessions for application help at our downtown Portland space. Dates and times are located in the Oregon Literary Fellowship Guidelines.  Contact Susan Moore , Director of Programs for Writers, for more information or questions about applying for a fellowship.

Help Oregon remain a place where artist are supported and literature thrives.

The Oregon Book Awards & Fellowships Program is supported in-part by:

Founded in 1984, Literary Arts is a community-based nonprofit literary organization dedicated to serving Oregon's readers and writers. Our programs include Portland Arts & Lectures, one of the country's largest lecture series; Oregon Book Awards & Fellowships, which celebrates Oregon's writers and independent publishers; Youth Programs, which inspire students to write, revise, edit, publish, and perform their own creative writing; and Portland's Book Festival, which builds community around literature through author events, workshops, a book fair, and more. We also host guided discussion groups around great works of literature through a program called Delve.
