This event invites all female-identified people to join Habitat on an active build site for a day of homebuilding alongside other women from all over our community. Habitat’s Women Build creates space for women to learn, build, and lead in a supportive and empowering environment. No construction experience necessary! Lunch and a t-shirt are provided.
While these events are free and open to the public, we are specifically reaching out and inviting women connected to organizations that are run by and who serve women of color. Women Build is actively embracing intersectionality and working to create a diverse group of women that can come together, learn together, and celebrate each other’s strengths.
The build day on August 24th will be celebrating the 99th anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment acknowledging women’s right to vote. Our plan is to pay tribute to all women who fought to make this happen, and in particular pay tribute to women of color like Hattie Redmond, whose contributions to women’s suffrage have been long overlooked. We will be inviting local leaders who are women of color to say a few words.
If this is something you or others in your wonderful organizations you connect to would be interested in, please let me know! Build slots are limited, so we can only offer a few at a time. Each interested participant will need to create an account through our online volunteer system at https://pdxhabitat.volunteerhub.com/. Pre-registration is required.
