6200 SE King Road, Portland, OR 97222

Start Date: 12/19/2019 6:00PM

End Date: 12/19/2019 7:30PM

PDX Through a Latinx Lens is a volunteer-ran organization which explore life in Portland as experienced by members of the Latinx community. Workshops touch on a variety of topics and experiences, with the central theme of sharing stories and experiences – positive, negative, and everything in between – of Latinx people living in the Portland Metro Area. Community volunteers with myriad personal, social, and professional experiences facilitate these workshops, which engage people within and outside of the Latinx community in shared learning and conversation opportunities. In Threats and Adaptation: Navigating Systems participants will work together in guided activities to explore concepts like impostor syndrome, code switching, and stereotype threat, among others. Participants can expect to leave the workshop with new insights, perspectives, and strategies on how to navigate systems that affect Latinx people (and those with other traditionally marginalized identities). Learning aside, participants can expect to leave with some new connections and maybe even some new friends! Coordinator’s Workshop Summary: Clackamas Workforce Partnership (CWP) is the local nonprofit workforce development board serving Clackamas County and the Greater Portland Metro Region. CWP works with private and public sector partners to identify issues in the local workforce and barriers to employment and develop collaborative solutions that meet the employment needs of businesses while meeting broader community needs. Through strategic partnerships and collectively addressing barriers to education, employment, and other opportunities, we hope to grow a dynamic, 21st Century workforce that is equitable, inclusive, and responsive to the diverse needs of all community members. In our mission to create a more responsive workforce system, we work with other organizations to provide free, accessible learning opportunities for community members, employers, and service providers working directly with the public. Through conversations and experiential learning opportunities, we hope to enhance our county’s awareness and understanding of the issues/barriers that face our friends and neighbors, and learn how we can work as individuals, groups, and systems to make positive change.
