Honoree

Joshua Hartman Rosado

He/Him | Assistant Professor of Classics
Moved Here from: Portland, Maine on June 2024
Why did you move here?

My wife's family are here and we were feeling really tired of moving around due to my work as a professor.

What is one thing that you need/want from a community right now?

I am hoping to make more connections to find a job in higher ed or tech. My work as a teaching professor is likely behind me, but I would still be eager to work in staff or admin roles. I even have some experience in higher ed admissions and in undergraduate advising. Similarly, I am trained in computational methodologies for Latin, work that has become more relevant as machine learning and Natural Language Processing have led to generative AI. I am also fluent in multiple languages (Spanish, German, French, among others) and I am eager to contribute to workplaces/ workflows that have a need for such things.

What kind of civic connection are you interested in making?

I am always eager to connect around issues of Puerto Rican history, politics and culture. I worked on this professionally for a while, as many revolutionary leaders were trained as Latinists and this informed their poetry and art. On a less intellectual note, I love learning about places to get good food in Portland, especially if it is from Latin America or the Caribbean!
