He/Him | Development Director
Company: Afghan Support Network
Moved Here from: Tashkent, Uzbekistan on October 2023
Why did you move here?

I moved to the United States under a Special Immigration Visa (SIV) for my work with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. After the collapse of the Afghan government in August 2021, my family and I faced imminent danger due to my association with the U.S. military. Following a harrowing journey and near-death experiences, we escaped to Uzbekistan, where we waited for my SIV application to be processed before eventually arriving in the U.S.

What is one thing that you need/want from a community right now?

I want to connect with the local community and establish a strong network, particularly within the nonprofit sector in Oregon. Building these connections is crucial for my work in development and for advancing causes that support the Afghan community and other underserved populations. Networking will allow me to collaborate with other professionals, share resources, and make a greater impact through nonprofit development work.

What kind of civic connection are you interested in making?

I am interested in building civic connections with organizations and individuals involved in nonprofit work, community development, and immigrant support services. These connections would help me collaborate on initiatives aimed at supporting refugees, immigrants, and marginalized communities. Additionally, I seek partnerships with local government agencies, civic leaders, and other nonprofits to enhance opportunities for education, employment, and empowerment of underserved groups in Oregon.
