DCBS consists of the Workers' Compensation Division, Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division, Division of Financial Regulation, Building Codes Division, Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace, Small Business Ombudsman, and Injured Workers Ombudsman. The department provides shared services to all divisions through the Director's Office, Central Services, and Employee Services.

LEAP (Learn-Experience-Accomplish-Progress) is the DCBS internship program that was launched the summer of 2017. The program is designed to provide participants with an idea of what a career at DCBS looks like, and the tools to successfully compete for future recruitments at DCBS. Interns will work alongside existing staff on projects in addition to spending time in the classroom with their cohort. All interns will work on a final project presentation with the help of an assigned supervisor in one of our divisions.

The Department is seeking 8 candidates to fill 8 internship positions with various divisions from June 10th – August 9th, 2019

These will be a part-time positions, working 30 hours a week, and are not represented by a union.

The Salary listed is reflective of a 40 hour work week. This part-time internship is scheduled to work 30 hours a week. The salary range will be $14.44 - $16.88 per hour.

Here’s the project you will work on… (there are 8 projects and 8 unique postings for each project)

• Advocacy and Outreach Intern – Develop presentations, educational games and other materials that the division can use to educate students about health insurance and financial literacy in support of the division’s consumer protection mission.

• Financial Services Travel Intern - DCBS provides services to Oregonians all over the state. In addition, DCBS staff travel out-of-state to meet with stakeholders, for training, and other responsibilities. In order to make the travel process smooth for DCBS staff, Financial Services has created an agency travel guide. The travel guide needs to be reviewed and updated to reflect new rules and requirements. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to update the agency travel guide for travelers and managers.


• Financial Services Revenue Intern- DCBS Financial Services provides excellent accounting services to seven different divisions. This requires accurate recording of revenue and expenditures. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with Financial Services management, senior budget analysts, and senior accountants to review the agency revenue codes and descriptions, and to create a documentation process to retain the original purpose of the codes.

• IT&R Intern- This project will be to assist in developing a role-based identity management system that grants rights to systems based work functions. This individual will work with business managers to outline functions of positions within their unit and develop a list of system accesses needed to do the function.

• Graphic Design Intern- The intern selected will collaborate with the Public Relations intern to create a strategic communications campaign that may include the creation of fliers, publications, posters, video, and infographics using advanced Adobe Creative Cloud skills. The intention is to create materials that will both be used by the department and valuable portfolio pieces for the intern.

• Procurement Intern- The project would be an agency SPOTS review: Using the past fiscal year, the intern will review our SPOTS purchases for the following (not an exhaustive list): review non-price agreement SPOTS purchases to determine if DAS laws and DCBS policies were followed, e.g. whether state price agreements were checked; potential fragmenting identified and whether documentation of quotes are present. The intern will also flag all software purchases for license agreement follow-up and identify COBID vendors. The intern will be provided with a checklist and instructed on the review criteria and how to document findings. In conclusion, the intern will present a report of their findings. This information will be used to ensure the agency is in compliance with statewide purchasing requirements and help identify potential areas for internal training.
• Public Affairs Intern- The intern selected will collaborate with the with the Graphic Design intern to create and implement a strategic communications campaign for the department, identifying the necessary strategies, tactics, and materials.

• OSHA Intern: Review and evaluate technical literature and standards of various industries, review and evaluate employer files and occupational injury and illness records. Determines and prepare the type of equipment necessary for onsite activity. Under the direction of an experienced Occupational Safety Specialist, conduct on-site evaluations of Oregon workplaces to identify, evaluate, and document the presence of hazards. Conducts employee interviews. May learn to use various types of air, heat, light and sound monitoring and measuring instruments. Under the direction of an experienced specialist, discuss evaluation results with the employer and employee representatives; describes hazards; explains employer and employee rights and responsibilities under the Oregon Safe Employment Act. Document, in written report form and through use of data systems. Perform administrative and professional duties as follows: Operates assigned office vehicle, maintains accurate log of travel and submits timely reports. Reviews and evaluates case files, codes and standards. Researches and keeps current on technical literature.

Be enrolled in college at least half time at the time of application;

Be at least 18 years of age by the time the program starts on June 10th, 2019.
