Position Overview

The Sr. Compliance Specialist will assist the Compliance and Integrity Officer in order to gather regulatory compliance information for Federal and state-specific requirements related to electronic health records (EHR), electronic prescribing, practice management systems and research. The Specialist will assist the Integrity Officer in order to help with the development of policies, procedures, tools, and training materials that are needed based on changes in the regulatory environment, or based on new states that OCHIN will be implementing EHR and PM systems within.
The Compliance Specialist II will routinely conduct environmental scans of the regulatory environment in order and assist the Integrity Officer in verifying that OCHIN has the processes and policies in place that are needed for compliance purposes as regulations and laws change. The Compliance Specialist II will prepare position papers, policies, procedures and other documentation based on changes in the regulatory environment. The Compliance Specialist II will collaborate within OCHIN,and its member organizations and with data partners to resolve compliance concerns and address compliance questions.

The Sr. Compliance Specialist will conduct Security Risk Assessments in accordance with HIPAA for small, mid-sized, and large hospitals and clinics. The Security Risk Assessments may be local or require travel throughout the United States. As part of the process for conducting Security Risk Assessments, the Compliance Specialist II will assist with the scoping of the assessment, make travel arrangements, schedule and conduct interviews with clients, perform physical security walkthroughs, manage remediation plan meetings, and write a final report of all observations, risks, and recommended remediation steps.

The Sr. Compliance Specialist will draft and execute agreements for data use, data sharing and data acquisition for OCHIN Research. The Compliance Specialist II will serve as the primary compliance contact and resource for OCHIN Research, providing support and expertise on agreements, policies and procedures, needed trainings and interpretation of relevant federal and state regulations. The Compliance Specialist II will collaborate with OCHIN Research to develop and implement an audit process for research compliance and regulatory oversight.

The Sr. Compliance Specialist will develop and provide compliance trainings for internal staff, clients, and collaborative members. These presentations may be live, online, or recorded. The Compliance Specialist II will be responsible for developing content for trainings, reviewing trainings of the Compliance Team, collaborating with OCHIN Marketing and Training Teams, and developing training schedules and plans for clients and the OCHIN Learning Forum.

The Sr. Compliance Specialist will conduct internal investigations of compliance and privacy concerns including documenting all steps of the investigation process, interviewing staff, developing remediation steps, and providing the final memorandum to the Integrity Officer for review and finalization. The Compliance Specialist II will work with Compliance Team to conduct audits and develop remediation steps.

The Sr. Compliance Specialist will manage the Administrative Oversight Committee (AOC) including determining agenda items for the meeting, developing slides, and ensuring information is timely submitted for review.

The Sr. Compliance Specialist will coordinate the projects that the Compliance Specialist I may be working on, at the direction of the Integrity Officer. Assist the Compliance and Integrity Officer in development of the OCHIN compliance program.
