Position Summary This role is responsible for ensuring that all employees are paid accurately, in a timely manner and with the correct withholdings and deductions. Provide multi-state payroll tax research and review of state and local requirements including jurisdictional tax.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for accurately processing monthly payroll utilizing the University software system. 25%
Responsible for new employee set-up as well as changes to existing employee’s positions, or changes to employee payroll deductions (donations, garnishments, withholding taxes, etc.). 15%
Responsible for the administration of the University electronic timecard system for non-exempt employees including set-up of new employee timecards, maintenance of existing timecards, troubleshooting timecard errors, communicating and enforcing deadlines with employees and timecard approvers, as well as troubleshooting all timecard questions from employees and approvers. 15%
Primary point of contact for general payroll inquiries. 20%
Maintain electronic Payroll records including employee records and Federal, State and Local tax filings and notices. 15%
Research and compile data pertaining to State and Local Jurisdictional Tax 5%
Serve as backup to Payroll Supervisor for bi-weekly payroll processing, off-cycle payroll payments, and the processing of Federal, State, and Local Withholding tax payments and filings and perform other clerical and payroll functions as directed by the Payroll Supervisor. 5%
Work Contacts Senior management, faculty, staff, and department peers.
Scope of Work Supports daily operations of the payroll department. Follows standard operating procedures throughout course of work. Works with confidential and time-sensitive information, especially involving personnel information. May initiate actions in support of departmental operations. Contributes ideas and expertise to department leadership on operational plans for the department/program.
Working Conditions Office environment with minimal noise exposure.
Minimum Physical Requirements
Able to tolerate prolonged sitting, exposure to computer terminal and computer use.
Able to tolerate highly repetitive keyboarding and 10-key numerical entry.
Able to bend, reach, grasp, lift and carry within an office environment.
Able to perform complex mathematical and logical reasoning functions with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness.
Able to engage in effective two-way conversation.
Able to maintain regular and consistent attendance at the onsite work location.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred.
Experience processing multi-state and multi-locality payroll preferred.
3+ years’ progressively responsible experience in payroll processing.
3+ years’ experience successfully working in a computer based accounting environment, SCT Banner preferred.
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Proficient in the use and application of Microsoft Word and Excel including writing complex formulas, creating and using pivot tables, and working in spreadsheets on a frequent basis.
Able to perform high volume data entry with in a timely manner with high accuracy and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; in person, via telephone and via email.
Able to maintain confidentiality and handle confidential information with good judgement, discretion and integrity.
High organized, able to work effectively in a high volume, fast paced environment.
Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal oversite.
