This position manages all aspects of the Phonathon program, including but not limited to division strategy, data analysis, and management of 15-20 student employees. Oversee and direct the student philanthropy program, including the student volunteer group, the Student Philanthropy Council, and the Senior Gift Campaign. Act as project lead on special assignments from Senior Associate Director of Annual Giving, such as the Senior Experience Committee, Reunion Giving Assistants, various stewardship initiatives, staff Institutional Advancement events, and respond to donor requests on behalf of Lewis & Clark.
What You'll Do
Manages all aspects of the phonathon program.
1. Sets phonathon calling strategy; establishes, produces, and maintains reports on calling; responds to all phonathon related requests from donors and staff; maintains Campus Call software program.
Determines calling segments, writes data request, coordinates with major gift officers to determine which prospects to include and exclude in calling pools, and collaborates with software vendor.
Design and enforce Phonathon pledge reminder process.
Develop scripts and challenge language. Work with Publications and Communications, Law School, and Graduate School of Counseling and Education to provide current and meaningful updates and news about L&C.
Donor follow-up on behalf of Annual Giving: Answer questions regarding gift history and giving options, respond to special requests from alumni made through phonathon, address expired credit card and gift processing issues.
2. Independently manages all student callers (15-20 per year) and the student employment process for annual giving, including: writing job descriptions, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, managing, motivating, evaluating, and firing student employees.
Calling runs September-December, February-April, and May (manual).
Oversees and directs the student philanthropy program at Lewis & Clark, including the student volunteer group, the Student Philanthropy Council, and the Senior Gift Campaign.
1. Student Philanthropy Council:
Recruits, trains, and oversees 20 student volunteers.
Collaborates with students to execute philanthropy education events, marketing, and student solicitation.
Events include: Philanthropy Fridays, Thank A Donor Day, LC Day of Giving, and other Senior Experience Events.
Event calendaring and logistics; day-of planning; vendor coordination; sweatshirt creation; advertising; volunteer recruitment; training and management; write talking points; thank you card proofing and distribution to volunteers and alumni.
Marketing via email, mail, campus signage, and other platforms available.
Peer-to-peer solicitation and face-to-face solicitation of students, especially during Senior Gift Campaign.
2. Senior Gift Campaign:
Track student giving and ensure goals are met in order for Annual Giving to successfully meet key participation rates—an institutional priority.
Serve on Senior Experience Committee.
Staff Senior Experience events as Senior Gift representative.
Project manager for Senior Gift hosted events such as “Senior Soiree.”
Additional student management:
Reunion Giving Assistants
Hire, train, and manage student giving workers at Alumni Weekend (3rd weekend of June).
Coach on face-to-face fundraising tactics and ensure optimal engagement with alumni.
Special projects as assigned, such as: LC Day of Giving, expired credit card processes, gift processing issues, 1:1 calendar year-end solicitations, and 1:1 fiscal year-end solicitations.
2 years of related experience
Past Phonathon/Telefund experience strongly preferred.
Strong communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Strong organizational skills; ability to manage competing deadlines and simultaneous projects without daily oversight.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create strong partnerships and relationships with internal and external College constituents.
Volunteer recruitment and management skills.
Ability to hire students who demonstrate potential and the necessary skills to excel in the Phonathon and Annual Giving roles.
Ability to supervise a large group of students with varying needs and abilities.
Ability to think critically and independently troubleshoot when issues arise.
Knowledge of computers, excel, word processing, databases, paired with the ability to learn new programs and software quickly
Ability to coordinate events including advertising, event logistics, and event management.
Nice to Haves
4 years of related experience
Professional experience in telemarketing and or an annual giving environment.
Ability to be an articulate spokesperson of the on behalf of the College.
Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge database and CampusCall software.
Ability to work independently as well as establish and maintain harmonious relations with a diverse constituency.
Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and the ability to motivate perspective donors. Demonstrated skills in phone solicitation.
