DEQ has a centralized policy and planning component and regional offices to accomplish its mission. The Land Quality Division works to reduce the environmental and health impacts of materials during their production and use, reducing, recovering, and safely managing the disposal of solid and hazardous wastes; administer the State’s underground storage tank and heating oil tank programs; respond to spills of oil and hazardous materials; and assess and manage environmental cleanups.

The Materials Management section within Land Quality plans and implements policies and programs to reduce impacts of materials and products throughout their full life cycle, from design and production, through distribution, consumption and use, and management at end-of-life. This section establishes goals and measures; supports and performs research; develops and implements incentive, product stewardship, waste reduction, and waste management programs; provides education and information; and collaborates with diverse public and private partners.

What you will do!
The Office Specialist provides clerical and administrative support for the Materials Management Section of the Land Quality Division. You will answer phone calls; assist managers in maintaining calendars; coordinate all aspects of meeting scheduling and logistics; order, track, and reconcile purchases of services and supplies; provide support to managers and staff on various software, computer, and other equipment; answer routine questions about the program and services; enter data into E-Cycles and Material Recovery Survey databases, and provide reports from those databases; draft and format documents; proofread and edit materials; develop spreadsheets; and prepare travel and training requests for staff. You will also gather, review, analyze, and prepare reports on data and information to support program performance measures and other reports and projects. Finally, you will maintain the records management system for the section.

What are we looking for?

2 years of general clerical experience, 1 year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents.
Experience entering data and maintaining databases; experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Experience with records management and records management systems.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and time management skills.
High aptitude for learning new things and an ability to pay attention to detail.
Ability to work on tight deadlines in environments with shifting priorities and demands.
A desire to work in public service and make an impact on Oregon’s land, water, and air quality.
