Each year the Human Rights Commission celebrates our community's social justice champions by holding their annual Emily G. Gottfried Human Rights Awards luncheon. Community leader and Human Rights Commissioner, Emily G. Gottfried, championed and organized the first Portland Human Rights Awards luncheon in 2013. Sadly, we lost her soon afterward. In 2014, the awards were renamed in Emily's honor. Three awards are presented to human rights champions who work to eliminate discrimination and bigotry; strengthen inter-group relationships; and foster greater understanding, inclusion, and justice for community members in the city of Portland. The categories are: Lifetime Achievement, Emerging Leader, and Outstanding Organization. The awards luncheon is a beautiful event that brings together community that is dedicated to contributing to social justice efforts locally, elected officials, multiple jurisdictions, and many others who work across sectors and are. We are seeking an event coordinator for this year's luncheon. The event planning timeframe includes a nomination period which begins in October and the event takes place the second week in December.
