Outside In’s Employment & Education Resource Center (ERC) is an integrated, career development program that works to help youth – ages 18-25 – move out of poverty and homelessness. ERC provides a variety of work readiness and job search activities, job retention coaching, post-secondary support, and an accredited, alternative school (Urban Ed). The Job Readiness Instructor will work with participants individually and in small cohorts to introduce them to the world of work and living wage careers, and to help them gain skills that are critical to success in jobs and post-secondary training/education. The instructor will also work with the ERC team to develop and/or deliver engaging, career-centered content to meet the needs of participants.

This is a union-represented, full time position.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate and act as key instructor for the Job Readiness Training (JRT) program and curriculum
Work with entire ERC team to ensure an integrated career development approach, continuous improvement and relevance of the program in meeting youth needs and contractual agreements
Help design and implement outreach, career exploration, and job search activities for ERC participants (e.g., workplace tours, workshops, Career Spotlights, visits to job fairs)
Help youth become active partners in understanding soft skills that support success at work and school, assessing their progress, and celebrating gains
Recruit, engage, instruct and retain JRT participants and help them transition successfully to employment and training opportunities
Actively coach youth, one-on-one, to use classroom learning as a springboard to more intensive career exploration and job search activities
Act as staff lead for twice weekly, drop-in supervised job search (Job Club)
Train and supervise Job Club and JRT volunteers (e.g., mock interview volunteers)
Support agency mission and goals, and the operational functioning of the Youth Department
Demonstrate commitment to excellent customer service, continual learning and quality performance
Perform all required documentation and information input in a professional, accurate, thorough, and timely manner
Maintain professional boundaries and performance at all times

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Teaching credential
Minimum two years of relevant work with young people experiencing homelessness and navigating trauma, teaching experience, and/or workforce development.
Willing and able to effectively follow directions, and work independently and as part of a team
Ability to work collaboratively and equally well with diverse coworkers, businesses, volunteers, community partners, and youth with multiple barriers to employment
Flexible, pragmatic and creative thinker with exceptionally strong communication, organization, planning and interpersonal skills. Excellent attention to detail.
Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications
Spanish fluency
