Job Purpose

This position is full time for 9 months of the year, with 3 months off. The Costume Shop Manger collaborates and supports the principal designer, an Associate Professor of Theatre, as well as all student costume designers and costumers, in creating/constructing/pulling/altering costumes for all Department of Theatre productions and classroom needs, including instruction for Theatre Lab students. This position has responsibility of supervision of work-study, budget management and overall workflow of the shop. The Costume Shop manager presides over costume storage, costume workers (students, in our case), and costume construction.

What You'll Do
* The manager constructs costumes and/or pulls and/or alters existing costumes and/or shops for or rents costumes; to meet deadlines, the manager determines the workload in collaboration with the costume designer and manages student labor toward completion of costumes. The manager schedules the fittings for all costumes of all productions in both theatre spaces and fits costumes to each performer, supplying support during technical rehearsals as needed. The goal is to create costumes from designs supplied by the Theatre/Design faculty, by students, or by guest artists.
* Presides over costume shop by organizing and maintaining the shop equipment, supplies and costume stock. Manages and maintains the raw materials used for costumes and decoration, and all machinery and tools.
* Schedules student workers in the costume shop. Instructs students workers (through work study or through Th 110) in skills that could include pattern drafting, draping, fitting, stitching, tailoring, altering, and/or finish work.
* Manages all production budgets for costume during the year.
* Attends productions meetings and Department meetings; contributes advice and commentary about ongoing Departmental work, student interest and progress as it affects the functioning of the Costume Shop and the collaborative nature of our Department.

Must Haves
* High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with 6 years of directly related job experience; or Associates degree with 4 years of directly related job experience; or Bachelor's degree with 2 years of directly related job experience
* Experience in costume construction, experience instructing students in costume skills; experience in costume shop management

Nice to Haves
* Master's degree
* Four years doing costume management and costume construction in professional theatre OR four years doing costume management and costume construction in academic theatre.
* Ability to design costumes.
* Ability to teach a two credit stage makeup class.
* Ability to teach a four credit theatre graphics class.

Work Schedule
* Works 9 out of 12 months per year

Pay Rate
* $22.73 per hour
