The Marine Security Team is responsible for maintaining the security of Terminals 4 and 6. They assist with ensuring compliance with the Maritime Transportation Security Act and other regulations. Our Officers monitor and report incidents to safeguard commercial and industrial property against terrorism, fire, theft, vandalism, unauthorized entry and unsafe conditions.

This is a union represented position, classified as regular on-call. Hours and shifts vary and a 40 hour work week cannot be guaranteed. Must be available for all shifts and on short notice 24/7 x 365.
*NOTE: This job will close on February 13, 2019 or when we reach a maximum number of applicants; whichever comes first.

•Conduct routine security patrols at assigned terminal locations and positions. Act as access control officer for vehicles and pedestrians entering the terminal.
•Maintain alert watch for unlawful activities and pilferage, fire potential, hazardous cargo leaks and any other unsafe and/or dangerous conditions.
•Direct and assist first responders to fire alarms, oil spills and other environmental incidents, vehicle/equipment collisions and medical emergencies.
•Monitor radio transmissions and maintain radio communication with other security personnel at all times during duty shift.
•Assist with vessel and barge activity including pre and post arrival dock inspections, berthing, and vessel to shore communications.
•Record and document all vessel and barge related activity including arrival and departure times, berthing instructions, unusual incidents, pollution and berth damage.
•Report suspected violations of regulations and procedures as directed.
•Control movement of vehicles and personnel on Port property.
•Open and secure terminals and control work lights depending on work activity.
•Issue warning citations to vehicles or persons violating Port regulations.
•Investigate, write, and file reports of accidents and incidents occurring on Port property.
•Prepare and submit daily activity logs.
•Answer incoming telephone calls and provide appropriate guidance to Port customers and visitors.
•Safely operate and use Port furnished vehicles and equipment to perform all assigned duties. ◦Inspect vehicles and equipment at beginning and end of shift.
◦Fuel and monitor fluid levels in department vehicles.
◦Report any damaged or defective equipment.

•High school diploma or equivalent education is required.
•Associates degree in criminal justice, social science or related field is preferred.
•Minimum of one year experience in military security operations, law enforcement, or private security settings is required.
•U.S. Coast Guard experience in facility and/or vessel inspections and regulation under the Maritime Transportation Security Act is preferred.
•Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) Private Security Program, Unarmed Security Professional certification is preferred.
•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications including Outlook, Word and Excel is required.
•Must have valid driver's license at time of hire.
•The successful candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain a federal Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
•Must successfully complete and annually maintain a defensive tactics training certification within 90 days of employment.
•Must be able to obtain Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) – Private Security Unit Certification within 90 days of employment.
•Pass and maintain certification in First Aid, CPR and AED.
•Ability to pass comprehensive background check and pre-employment drug testing.
