Washington County's Sustainability Program provides guidance for best practices inside the organization. Sustainability works closely with County departments and employees to implement and track sustainability projects, share information with our workforce, train employees on sustainable practices and support sustainable behaviors.

The Sustainability Education Coordinator is responsible for coordinating education and engagement for the County's Sustainability Program to internal employees, as well as providing sustainability work, outreach and education to the community and partners in the County. This position develops and implements specialized informational programs through public presentations and other media techniques; conducts program evaluation; seeks and administers grants; organizes and trains volunteers. This role will also staff the Partners for a Sustainable Washington County Community (PSWCC), of which Washington County is a founding member.

Successful candidates will have a demonstrated passion and interest in sustainability. This role requires excellent communication skills, knowledge of adult education techniques, skills in current outreach methods and tools, and be able to work on multiple projects concurrently. The individual in this role should be comfortable conducting education planning, presenting information to diverse groups, facilitating meetings and events, organizing volunteers, and serving as a contributing member of a small, internally-facing program team. Ideal candidates will have experience engaging individuals from diverse backgrounds and have an interest in equity and inclusion. Someone with professional knowledge, skills, and abilities in social, environmental and/or economic sustainability would be a good fit for the program. Additionally, demonstrated advanced skills in all Microsoft Office tools will be needed in order to create and complete successful trainings.

Education and Experience:
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
An Associate's Degree in a health, social service, business, or related field and three (3) years of work experience in program administration, development, evaluation, and/or contract administration; OR
Five (5) years of experience in program administration, development, evaluation, and/or contract administration.

Preferred Qualifications:
Training or experience in a related field such as: a hard science, social science, education, environmental studies, or climate science.
Preferred credentials from the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), or certificates include:
ISSP-Sustainability Associate (SA)
ISSP-Certified Sustainability Professional (CSP)
Climate Change Professional (CC-P)
Climate Change Officer (CC-O)
Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
Master Recycler
Graduate Certificate in Sustainability

Salary: $5,952.68 - $7,232.30 per month
