This individual will have a key influence on the organization and the success of our future products. This person plays an important role in identifying and leading the evaluation of new technologies and their applicability to forklift designs to address customer needs. This individual interacts with all aspects of the organization at a global level, including engineering, marketing, manufacturing, and procurement - as well as customers and suppliers - to move concepts to realities. Position could range from Engineer II up to Senior Engineer, depending on experience.

Basic Responsibilities:

Develop, design, and release activities to ensure that the engineering outputs meet the quality, reliability, performance, and cost requirements for Alternative Energy Products.
Collaborate and provide support to the Platform, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Marketing groups engaged in the project.
Support development testing to ensure design robustness to requirements.
Attention to Quality: Follow established procedures and be attentive to details to ensure accuracy in design, testing, and documentation.
Decision Making: Exhibit good judgment and a realistic understanding of issues; demonstrate ability to take decisive actions to develop product and to overcome potential project roadblocks.
Teamwork and Flexibility: Function well in a team environment by working well with other employees and other departments. Solicit opinions from coworkers, support group decisions, and display team spirit. Be open minded and flexible enough to work effectively in an environment where project priorities may shift in response to customer or company needs.

Additional Responsibilities For Experienced Engineer:
Take a leadership role in identifying and maturing innovative technologies required to up-grade NMHG products to lead the competition in the marketplace.
Engage suppliers to identify potential solutions.
Communicate technology findings to upper management and work with other Company Development Centers to define and plan Proof of Concept proposals.
Execute assigned Proof of Concept projects to demonstrate the business case and product viability.
Develop and manage the technical engineering plan / schedule for the proof of concept project
Manage the technical engineering staff assigned to the POC.
Coordinate with other departments in the evaluation of new opportunities.
Represent HYG in industry/regulatory organizations and/or universities during the search for or development of new opportunities.
Extend support to resolve current product problems with personal technical knowledge.

Basic Qualifications:

BS degree in Engineering, with a working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical/electronic disciplines being preferred.
Software programming skills are also desired.
Innovative thinker - inquisitive, creative, energetic, self-starter
Basic knowledge/skill in drafting practices, CAD, and design layouts.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Troubleshooting and problem solving skills to apply basic principles and methods to resolve development issues.

Additional Qualifications for Experienced Engineer:

5 plus years of related engineering experience
Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including:
Project management
Employee supervision
Refined written and verbal communication skills.
