Position Title: INTERIM PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER

Department: MIDDLE SCHOOL/ATHLETICS

FTE: 1.0

Reports to: MIDDLE SCHOOL HEAD

Time Frame: October 12, 2019 to June 18, 2020





POSITION SUMMARY
In collaboration with other PE colleagues, the Interim Middle School PE Teacher is responsible for program and curriculum development, set-up, teaching, student assessment for 6th to 8th grade students. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated use of a variety of teaching methods to support different learning styles and have experience teaching the whole spectrum of students. The candidate should be excited to help students build self-confidence through successful exploration and discovery. The candidate must also have legal working status.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Co-teach five sections of Middle School PE
Work with students to help them develop curiosity, creativity, teamwork, resilience, empathy, independence, time management, and responsible decision making
Create an inclusive classroom environment through regular class meetings, supportive exchanges with students, and clear expectations for classroom behavior
Collaborate and team teach with other PE teachers and regular classroom teachers to plan and implement a comprehensive PE curriculum based on best practices and national standards
Provide students with a variety of developmentally appropriate opportunities to develop the discipline and skills required to maintain a healthy lifestyle
Design activities that fit a wide spectrum of learners
Communicate in a clear and timely fashion with parents, students and colleagues
Cooperatively work and communicate effectively with parents in conferences and written reports in ways that meet the needs of the students and the school
Serve as advisor to students
Have a high collegial quotient and be a committed and dedicated team player
Be a positive and contributing member of the professional community
Participate in field trips, overnights, and divisional experiential offerings
Pursue professional growth opportunities and be accountable and responsible for individual professional development
Support and follow the Employee Handbook for Policies and Procedure and Middle School professional expectations
Other duties as assigned by Middle School Head

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

BA or BS in teaching PE or closely related field is required
MA or MS in teaching, education, or related field is preferred
At least two years demonstrated effective teaching experience is preferred
Demonstrated experience adolescents is required
Experience in curriculum development a plus
Experience with Understanding by Design instructional planning a plus
Understanding and experience with student-centered teaching, project-based learning, and performance-based assessment is preferable
Use of internet, e-mail, and other appropriate technology applications
Willingness to sponsor an activity, club, or coach is highly desirable
Passed background check required
First aid training preferable
