The City of Tigard seeks qualified, energetic, and team player applicants to fill one full time Senior Engineering Technician position. The Senior Engineering Technician works in the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department at the City of Tigard.
The successful candidate for this position must be a self-starter capable of working independently under the direct supervision of the Principal Engineer. The Senior Engineering Technician primarily is responsible for the construction plan review, inspection and the construction management of private development projects and capital improvement projects, which help drive the city towards its strategic vision of becoming a more walkable city by creating connections and infrastructure to encourage our community members to live healthy, interconnect lives.
The Senior Engineering Technician also may interface with and work in teams with Public Works Operations, Community Development, and other city staff as well as public stakeholders.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
•Review private development construction plans including examining grading plans, and plats to ensure City Standards, Conditions of Approval, and other applicable codes and regulations, and recommendations of the engineer are met.
•Review, analyze, calculate, and revise cost estimates; review and calculate System Development Charges and permit fees, for private development projects; prepares agreements and bond documents.
•Issue public facility improvement permits for private development and right of way constructions.
•Performs complex construction inspections of public and private projects to ensure compliance with City standards and other applicable codes and regulations. Maintain records, field inspection notes, and files.
•Coordinate with internal staff including Planning Department and Public Works Operation, Federal, State, and local agencies, project engineers, developers, contractors, and private citizens, scheduling meetings, compiling project information, and maintaining accurate files.
•Respond to requests for information and complaints from the public, contractors, developers, utility companies, and others.
Knowledge and Abilities: •Basic principles of supervision and training.
•Civil engineering principles, practices, and methods applicable to office and fieldwork involving the design, construction, and maintenance of projects.
•Engineering plan types, review practices, and permit filing and approval procedures.
•Principles and practices of technical civil engineering drafting and surveying support.
•Drafting and surveying equipment, computers, principles, problems, techniques, and practices.
•Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
•Technical engineering mathematics.
•Plan, schedule, assign, and oversee activities of staff; train staff in work procedures.
•Prepare of a variety of plans, specifications, maps, graphic materials, cost estimates, and technical engineering reports.
•Modify of engineering drawings, topographic maps, improvement plans, and illustrative graphics using Computer-Assisted Drafting (CAD) software.
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to completion of a 2-year degree in civil engineering, civil engineering technology, AutoCAD/GIS technology, or related field and four (4) years of paraprofessional civil engineering experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
◦Possession of a valid driver's license with satisfactory driving history.
◦Certification from Oregon Department of Transportation (or equivalent) in at least one of the following areas: Certified General Inspector (CGI), Certified Environmental Construction Inspector (CECI), or Certified Asphalt Concrete Pavement Inspector (ACPI)
