Salem is looking for a talented individual to join our Planning team. We are seeking a Planner for a full time career position for a long-range planning position. This position is open to an entry level planner (Planner I) or an experienced planner (Planner II), dependent on the chosen candidate's experience.

Salem is the 3rd largest city in the State and is a fast growing community. The chosen candidate will have many opportunities to be involved in planning for Salem's future. The Planning Division consists of 12 full time planners and includes 3 sections: Current Planning, Long Range Planning and Historic Preservation Planning.

The Planning Division has recently kicked off the exciting work of updating our Comprehensive Plan. Tasked with establishing a new vision for growth and development for Salem, the project, Our Salem, is just beginning visioning and broad public outreach. The planner in this position will primarily work on Our Salem as well as other long range planning projects such as a Climate Action Plan, addressing housing needs, legislative updates and code amendments.

Salary range for Planner I 0198: $25.76 - $31.46
Salary range for Planner II 0200: $30.11 - $37.11

What are the minimum qualifications?

To qualify for this position you will need a bachelor's degree in planning or a related field or any combination of experience and training providing considerable knowledge of the principles and procedures of urban planning, architectural and site design review, research and analytical methodology and statistical techniques and application of planning principles to city, county and regional areas.

Additionally, the following qualifications are desirable:•Experience with public outreach, including facilitating meetings, developing creative outreach strategies, creating flyers, etc.;
•Education and/or experience in environmental sciences or natural resources;
•Spanish fluency;
•Master's degree in Planning; and
•AICP certification.

You must also possess excellent writing skills, the ability to present technical information to the general public, both orally and in writing, the ability to work effectively with others, effective time management skills and the ability to complete work with minimal supervision.
