Mobile Housing and Retention Specialist

Community Strengthening Programs

(40 Hours/Week); Non-Exempt

Reports to: Housing Services Manager


This is an out-stationed position that will function as part of an inter-agency team. The mobile housing specialist will have in order to conduct effective outreach by meeting the client where they are at. This includes going to apartments, cars, parks, bridge viaducts, forested areas, and other locations where people camp. Effective outreach often requires working non-traditional hours. The mobile housing specialist will provide strength based advocacy to build and nourish mutual relationships, trust and support that promotes the successful placement into permanent housing.


Provide direct outreach and housing placement services to families who are experiencing homelessness and are on the Family Shelter-to-Housing Program Wait List.
Initiate a strength based and trauma informed intervention service and referrals to promote a successful transition into permanent housing
Provide continued support to promote housing stabilization up to eight months.
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with landlords, police, social service agencies, businesses, and neighborhood organizations. Work with area landlords to ensure and expand housing options for homeless families.
Maintain case files and records that are in compliance with contractual requirements and organizational practices.
Work effectively with a diverse team.
Take part in a coordinated entry system for families experiencing homeless.
Participate in trainings, team building, staff meetings and coordination meetings.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Must be bilingual (Spanish/English) and bi-culturally competent.
Experience and knowledge working with a broad range of issues affecting Latinos/Communities of Color in the community especially issues related to homelessness.
Experience working with individuals and/or families experiencing homelessness, outreach, and local resources.
An understanding of the effects of trauma and how experiencing homelessness and poverty further compounds trauma and manifest.
Experience working under the Assertive Engagement model of service delivery.
Advanced level of Excel, Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and Workforce and Service Point.
Demonstrate sound judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
Have strong prioritization skills, initiative, follow through, and multi-tasking skills to ensure goals are met in a timely manner.
High attention to detail required.
Willingness to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities.
Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills.
Work well in team setting, as well as independently
Ability to work a flexible schedule, which could include some evenings and weekends.
Ability to lift 40 pounds.
Must have driver's license, ability to obtain automobile insurance at levels required by agency (100/300/100). Frequent driving in the Tri-County area required.
Satisfactory results from civil, criminal and motor vehicle background check required.

COMPENSATION: The pay range for this position is $16-$17/hr. Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience.
