The Gift Officer for Lewis & Clark Law School is responsible for securing funds by managing and cultivating relationships with donors in a portfolio of 60 – 100, as well as managing the stewardship of our scholarship donors. The Gift Officer will also oversee the Annual Fund for the law school, working closely with the law school Development Team as well as the Institutional Advancement team.
This is a key position in a small development team at the law school, consisting of the Assistant Dean, Alumni Relations Director, Senior Development Officer (major gifts), Development Administrative Coordinator, as well as the law school Dean. The law school development team is focused on increasing alumni engagement and identifying and cultivating donors, and is responsible for raising some $3.5 million each year, (approximately $400,000 being Annual Fund dollars). The law school’s development team is supported by Institutional Advancement (IA), which provides donor research, as well as support staff for planned giving, foundations and the annual fund campaign.
What You'll Do
Maintain portfolio of 60-100 donors to assure their continued support and upgrade their giving and involvement. These donors have giving histories of $2500 or below.
• Develop a strategy and engagement plan for each donor in the portfolio, with monthly metrics including:
# of discovery connections (are they interested in law school)
# meaningful connections (turn interest into some action)
# of stewardship connections (donor understands impact)
# of solicitations
• Implement and evaluate donor engagement plans.
• Assist faculty and staff with their solicitation (e.g. provide strategic counsel and help with donor communications)
• Acknowledge donors with appropriate recognition
• Document donor communication and contact notes in Raiser’s Edge
Steward scholarship donors to inspire them with the impact of their scholarship gift
Provide and manage gift agreements, endowment reports, student profiles/thank you letters (in conjunction with Development Coordinator)
Draft donor letters with detailed information on scholarship recipients
Work with selection committees, faculty and staff (Admissions, Finance and Student Affairs Deans) to ensure accurate information on scholarships and the awarding of scholarships
Maintain major spreadsheet on all scholarships
Help coordinate donor and scholarship recipient meetings
Oversee Annual Fund Activities
Collaborate with IA on plan for reaching annual AF $$ goal
Work closely with IA Annual Fund team for 3 -4 mass mailers and emails annually to law school donors and prospective donors
Draft communications for mass mailers/emails, collaborating with Assistant Dean
Manage replies from alums/donors from emails/mailings
Oversee donor acknowledgement letters/gift processing
Work closely with IA for phonathon, Day of Giving, and other projects
Engage with development team members in strategic planning for development efforts
Assist in identifying, cultivating, soliciting potential high-wealth donors
Assist in planned giving, major scholarship and other giving opportunities
Assist in developing plans to support comprehensive campaign themes
Attend alumni, donor and law school events (where donors are present)
* Bachelor's degree
* 3+ years experience in development, proven track-record of managing donors for retention and growth goals.
* Raiser’s Edge, Sales Force or other development/CRM database experience.
* Microsoft Office skills
* Good writing and verbal skills
* Sense of humor
* Team-player; ability to wear many hats as the work requires
* Ability to honor and work with all identities and individuals, particularly those who are underrepresented in the country and/or at Lewis & Clark College
Nice to Haves
* Master's degree
* 4 years proven track record of managing a donor portfolio: securing funds for the organization, retaining donors and raising donor levels of giving.

Eligibility to Work

Failure to have a completed I-9 form on file with the College will result in immediate termination of employment.
