This entry level Graphic Designer will provide graphic design skills for projects that support Product Design, Merchandising, Product Development and Production while contributing to the design and development of Youth Graphics, Graphic Tee shirts, and Ballcap Graphics. We are looking for someone that has experience working with Graphic Tee and Ballcap graphics specifically and ideally someone with the ability to conceptualize and sketch ideas.
•Focus on designing artwork for tee shirts and ballcaps and preparing artwork for production. This may also include completing production work to prepare artwork for final execution. Graphic work may also include apparel trim items. Design skills will be expressed through hand sketches, computer software (Illustrator and Photoshop), and design presentation creation.
•Collaborate with Senior graphic designer, Senior design manager, apparel/accessory designers, merchandiser(s) and color team to procure critical design information related to the development requirements of the artwork. This will include fabric, trim, color direction and graphic intent.
•Create artwork for two-dimensional and three-dimensional graphic applications for product related details such as embroideries, woven labels, heat transfers, molded rubber parts, and screen-prints.
•Research worldwide marketplace and interpret consumer and market needs as they relate to product category(s). This may include researching color and graphic design concepts and collecting feedback from merchandisers.
•Work closely with Senior graphic designer, Senior design manager to define new areas to research and source. Researches and proposes graphic applications, prints and/or patterns if applicable by working closely with Surface Designer(s).
•Coordinate with members of Graphic Design, Merchandising, Product Design, Product Development, and Materials Research teams in meeting timelines while upholding department standards for accuracy and attention to detail.
•Coordinate with Production Artists in maintaining digital databases, project tracking, filing and copying product related information during the design process from inception to completion as directed by Design Director and Sr Design Manager. Keep computer files organized and updated for access by team members and other departments.
•Respond to requests for file updates, printouts, and set-up and distribution of special file formats for Product Development, Production and outside vendors.
•Adhere strictly to calendar dates and coordinate with members of Merchandising, Design, Product Development and Materials Research teams in meeting timelines while upholding department standards for accuracy and attention to detail.
•Participate in team meetings, staff meetings, and other meetings to learn about the process. Maintain positive open lines of communication with all Columbia Sportswear management, staff and other departments to contribute to the smooth flow of information and efficient operation of the organization.
•Present design concepts in team meetings or Business Unit meetings for approval.
•Initiate procedures or techniques that improve and streamline the creative process for team members.
•Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, related field or experience equivalent to a degree
•1-3 years graphic design experience specifically related to youth graphics, graphic tees, and/or ballcaps required. Exposure to the outdoor industry or related work preferred.
