GENERAL INFORMATION:
Are you someone who loves troubleshooting and testing, and strives for stable and secure when it comes to a physical communications infrastructure? If so, you might be the perfect fit for our communications technician role. This position will work collaboratively with a team of professionals to provide technical assistance to project and operational work groups; act as a point-of-contact for telecommunication vendors and contractor field technicians; and do what it takes to install, maintain, troubleshoot, test, repair and document copper and fiber cabling and communications circuits and services.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform copper/fiber patching and/or cross-connection for voice and data networks
Perform network and telephone equipment moves, adds, and changes
Install phones, data lines, modems and network equipment on voice and data networks
Provision, install and connect in-field network, telephone, radio, and electronic equipment per Port standards and practices
Provision and replace failed network, telephone, radio, and other electronic equipment
Repair, splice, and terminate copper and fiber infrastructure, operate test equipment and provide cable test reports
Maintain, audit, and update communications infrastructure documentation (problem logs, hardware history, equipment inventory, drawings, and databases)
Perform troubleshooting and maintenance on communication infrastructure and communication equipment
Respond to and remediate network and phone system circuit alarms and circuit outages
Submit and track trouble tickets to service providers and inform customers regarding status and problem resolution
Oversee activities of all labor and material installation to insure compliance with Port standards
Provide technical expertise to Port departments, and tenants to identify requirements for equipment and cable routes
Evaluate customers' communication requirements and suggest recommendations for improved service
Assist and advise airlines and tenants regarding communications issues
Maintain operation and calibration of test equipment
Contribute to team initiatives and continual improvement of communications infrastructure practices and processes
Attend project, operational, and other team meetings and participate in group projects, or shared technician duties, such as reviewing and comment/advising on construction drawings

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Associate degree in telecommunications, or equivalent course work or professional certification
5+ years of limited energy work experience in a voice/data environment or the equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience
State of Oregon Limited Energy license (A or B)
Ability to obtain a valid Oregon or Washington State driver's license
Experience repairing and maintaining fiber plant including fusion splicing and fiber terminations
Experience operating copper/fiber cable test equipment (e.g. Fluke Cable Analyzer), analysis, and report generation
Commscope (ADC Krone), Siemons, Leviton (shielded Cat 6a), and/or Corning certifications (preferred)
Experience with Avaya and VoIP phone infrastructure (preferred)
Experience with Cisco LAN switching (preferred)
Experience with Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook (preferred)
Experience with Microsoft Visio and/or AutoDesk AutoCAD and/or Bluebeam suite (preferred)
Ability to obtain Port and government security credentials (required - requires criminal history background check), including Port of Portland SIDA Airport Badge, Port of Portland Marine Security Badge, and DHS/TSA TWIC Badge

Read and interpret engineering plans and wiring schematics
Maintain a working knowledge of voice and data technology, including hardware and network protocols (IP, Ethernet)
Troubleshoot and repair or replace defective physical, electronic and/or mechanical telecommunications equipment
Ability to collaborate with all Communications disciplines – network, telephony, radio, facilities – and other IT technical and customer support teams
Skilled with limited energy wiring and troubleshooting, including industry wiring standards and knowledge of voice circuits, digital signaling, and troubleshooting
Skilled at repairing and maintaining copper cabling, including termination
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Regular field work in non-climate controlled or noisy environments, network rooms, and wiring closets
Requires travel between multiple Port of Portland sites, operating areas, and Airport facilities
Work with frequent interruptions and short deadlines
Requires on-call, after-hours, work-on-weekends and/or holidays
Outside in varying weather conditions (irregular)
Ability to lift 50lbs
Work at varying heights using ladders or lifts
Work in construction environments with varying PPE requirements
