The role:
Apply today to work in a lead role on our Region 1 maintenance team! Assist the transportation maintenance manager by coordinating the work of a large Portland metropolitan maintenance crew engaged in the repair, renovation and reconstruction of roadbeds, surfaces, structures and facilities that are part of the state’s transportation system. The region night crew maintains areas that are not accessible during weekday travel hours due to high traffic volumes.

A day in the life:
Plan, prioritize, schedule and assign work activities. Ensure crew is equipped to complete work.
Assist the transportation maintenance manager by preparing, reviewing and signing a variety of documents.
Assist with short- and long-range planning and budget preparation. Research and gather historic cost data.
Patrol highways and structures for potential hazards and damages.
Track maintenance of equipment and schedule repairs. Make recommendations on rental equipment.
Advise and guide employees in effective performance. Resolve work-related issues.
Schedule shifts and weekend work as needed. Approve time records, employee overtime and leave.
Assist in hiring and selection process. Provide new employee orientation and train employees in the safe operation of a wide variety of equipment.
Respond to crashes and other emergencies, providing traffic control and recording data.
Monitor and inspect permit activities for compliance to permit specifications.
Exposure to noise, adverse weather, dangerous equipment, pesticides, fertilizers and hazardous waste materials is expected.
Must be able to walk, stand, bend and stoop for extended periods of time and lift up to 60 pounds.
May need to be available at any time for emergency, on-call and weather-related purposes.

What we need:
Three years of maintenance and/or construction experience in roadway/highway, bridge, sign, drawbridge or landscape. One year of this experience must have included lead work responsibilities.

Additionally, you will be required to use a commercial motor vehicle to conduct business; you must possess a current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A). A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s).
