The City of Lake Oswego is searching for a Senior Utility Worker to perform duties of an advanced nature related to the maintenance, operation, and repair of the City's water system. This is the advanced journey level class in the Utility Worker job classification series. Incumbents work under the general supervision of a Utility Superintendent. Employees in this class are responsible for the application of considerable knowledge in or mastery of an assigned area, and provide technical expertise or guidance to other utility workers. The incumbent may provide technical or functional guidance to part time, seasonal, or temporary employees. This position is represented by the Lake Oswego Municipal Employees' Association.

This particular position will be assigned to the Water Division and will focus on directing the work activities of the Utility Workers.
Key Responsibilities:
•Organizes and oversees work activities of crew including checking work performed for quality and completeness.
•Interprets general work instructions into specific work assignments, schedules work and instructs crew members in the methods and practices of the specified area.
•Monitors and reports on employee safety practices in the field.
•Troubleshoot difficult technical problems and repair complex equipment.
•Effectively meet and engage the public.
•Assure appropriate traffic control in accordance with the Oregon Manual on Traffic Control.
•May perform full scope of duties required of a utility worker.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Qualified candidates will have an advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of the repair, maintenance, constructions and installation procedures used in Water division. Candidates must be able to safely drive or operate vehicles, equipment, machines and tools. Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with employees, contractors, other departments/agencies, City officials, and the general public. Candidates must have the ability to read, write and use a computer for basic functions and the ability to perform strenuous tasks including but not limited to pushing, lifting, digging and manipulating often while reaching or bending in limited space. The candidate must effectively work with and communicate with homeowners/public on service-related issues.

•Candidates must have a valid State of Oregon Water Distribution 2 certification or be able to obtain one within 6 months.
•Candidates must possess a valid Oregon Driver's License and have a Commercial Driver License (CDL).
•Additional licensing may be required.
•Must be able to perform work in inclement weather; work 'on call' and varying shifts; and work cooperatively with other employees. Hiring is contingent upon successful completion of a Physical Capacity Exam (PCE).

This position is subject to mandatory participation in electronic funds transfer (EFT) for payment of net wages (i.e., Direct Deposit or Pay Card).
