Oregon Episcopal School seeks a skilled, professional, and culturally competent individual to be its international student support coordinator (ISRC). The ISRC provides direct support to and for OES’s English language leaner (ELL) and international students. By working closely with advisors, teachers, and Residential Life staff, the ISRC works to ensure that OES non-native speaking students get the individualized support they need to thrive as academic and social learners in the community. By coordinating with the director of inclusion and community engagement, the director of residential life, the director of academics, advisors, and the head of upper school, the ISRC works to ensure a positive and balanced experience for ELL students by meeting their needs in the academic, co-curricular, and residential areas, whether it be through faculty training, additional student support and/or programmatic development. This position reports directly to the Upper School division head and director of residential life. This is an academic year, faculty position that begins on August 19. The ISRC position alone is half-time (avg. 20 hours per week) but may be combined with teaching one section of English specifically designed for ELL students and a dorm parent position to be full-time. • Establish and maintain regularly scheduled meetings with ELL students, 9-12.
• Coordinate with College Counseling for ELL students, 11-12.
• Engage in Residential Life by assisting with planning and chaperoning events, including the retreats, being a presence in dorm life, attending the Dorm Staff retreat in August, and attending some dinners throughout the year.
• Collaborate with dorm staff to plan new student orientation, including summer contact with new students and families.
• Collaborate with director of residential life to develop dorm programming.
• Advise international students with academic planning during registration periods and throughout the school year.
• Hold regularly scheduled dorm office hours and skills support sessions after school.
• Proctor Dorm Study Hall as needed.
• Collaborate with Residential Life staff to better integrate dorm and day communities.
• Collaborate with Admissions to interview international candidates (via Skype or in person); read all international files and serve on Admissions Committee; make recommendations re: testing or 2nd interviews.
• Coordinate with registrar, including time in summer, with scheduling new and returning international students and placement of ELL students.
• Support students with semester transitions.
• Visit ELS, English and other classes of ELL students to determine individualized needs of ELL students and how best to support faculty in their work with ELL students.
• Teach ELL 9 Academic Support Class, which intentionally develops learning skills necessary to grow and develop as students at OES.
• Liaise with families, tutors, advisors, and teachers.
• Collaborate with DART (Dorm Academic Resource Team) team.
• Support and educate faculty and advisors in understanding the unique academic, cultural, and social needs of English language learners.
• Be on campus and available for students and teachers for at least 20 hours/week.

• BA/BS or equivalent in English, ELL, or related field
• Three years of experience
• Intercultural competence, ability to interact appropriately with a diverse array of students, coworkers, family members; ability to teach and guide diverse groups of students effectively
• IT skills: general digital literacy, intermediate to advanced MS Office Suite, database skills, web applications including Google Docs, Zoom or Skype, etc. as appropriate to job duties
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen, and driving record check

• MA/MS or equivalent in English or related field
• Experience in a residential life program and working with international students
• Experience with inquiry-based teaching and project-based learning
• Experience using digital teaching tools
• Successful history with innovation in the teaching of English, ELL and project based learning

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate and maintain collegial relations with colleagues
• Ability to develop curriculum with consideration of scope and sequence
• Ability to maintain a flexible mindset and an innovative approach to teaching
• Knowledge of educational technology; openness to innovation, willingness to learn and adapt as digital tools evolve, ability to integrate evolving IT into curriculum

• Primarily classroom environment, ability to sit at a computer keyboarding for moderate periods
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis
• Ability to see, hear and speak clearly to interact with groups of individuals
• Ability to move about the OES campus
