The Educator Advancement Council is seeking an Executive Director (Principal Executive/Manager G). This is a permanent, full-time position in executive service.

What you will do!

The Educator Advancement Council (EAC) is an innovative partnership aimed at helping Oregon achieve high-quality, well-supported and culturally-responsive public educators in every classroom. As the Executive Director of the Educator Advancement Council, you provide executive leadership for the agency’s Educator Advancement Council efforts (SB182). Responsibilities include administration, leadership and oversight of the EAC, implementing state and federal budget allocations, hiring and developing employees, developing and implementing a strategic plan and overseeing key strategic initiatives and measures. This position is also responsible for providing policy analysis to the Council, the Governor’s office, legislature and technical support to all 197 school districts.

What are we looking for?

Six years of management experience in a public or private organization which included responsibility for each of the following: a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation.

Candidates who are the most competitive will possess the following background, skills and experience:

This is a highly visible position that requires a great deal of energy and commitment to the reform efforts in Oregon public schools as identified in the Governor’s Council on Educator Advancement Report dated November 2016. This position must have executive-level administrative experience in an education setting and must have a Master’s Degree or higher in education, administration, leadership or closely related field preferred.
Knowledge of Oregon Educational systems and the varied roles of teacher and administrator along with the impacts of location, site, and funding on those jobs
Knowledge of Urban/Rural/Remote issues facing Oregon’s education systems
Knowledge of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and application of the equity lens.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Skill in navigating and assessing the executive, legislative, politician and institutional environments in which decisions are made and implemented.
Skill in building strong and collaborative partnerships across diverse groups in support of educational initiatives.
Skill in planning, setting agendas, convening and facilitating diverse groups of stakeholders internally and externally to collaborate and build consensus to achieve set goals and outcomes.
Skill in supervising, including planning and assigning work appropriate to the job; controlling work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations; determining subordinates training needs and arranging for such training; motivating subordinates to work effectively; determining the need for disciplinary action and either recommending or initiating disciplinary action.
Skill in planning, organizing and controlling the use of human, equipment and budgetary resources to achieve department, agency, division, or unit goals and objectives.
