The Utility Worker performs a variety of routine and semi-skilled manual labor tasks connected with the maintenance of the county roadway systems. Tasks include: landscaping, bridge repair, vegetation control, traffic control devices, pavement markings and drainage maintenance. Successful candidates also operate light trucks and motorized equipment as needed; and assists with emergency situations such as flooded roadways, plugged culverts, and downed trees as it relates to the transportation system. Work is typically performed in a team setting.
This recruitment is for four (4) full-time, benefited opportunity and up to four (4) seasonal, non-benefited full-time positions. The seasonal positions will last for a maximum of 6 months.
Education and Experience
A high school diploma or equivalent.
Six (6) months of experience in a construction or road maintenance environment is preferred.
Additional Licenses, Certificates, Physical Abilities, and Specialty Requirements
The ability to secure Work Zone Traffic Controller certification within 30 days of employment is a requirement.
Work is frequently performed on irregular shifts and hours under extreme conditions including emergency situations, inclement weather, unstable ground, heavy traffic, high noise levels, dust, poor visibility, at extreme heights and in close proximity to heavy equipment.
