As an Editor, you’ll defend our written work from inconsistencies and errors while preserving its spark and soul. You’re detail-oriented for sure (comma splices feel like a kick to the heart), and your analytical skills are off the charts—but you’re a personable communicator first and foremost.
You’ll work directly with our Writing Team, supporting with line edits, developmental editing, and the general pursuit of clarity and concision. You’ll also regularly collaborate with designers, developers, and account managers to glorify the QA process, ensuring only our best work sees the light of day.

Oh, you should know our Writing Team is tight-knit and strong. But our agency’s integrated teams collaborate equally and share accountability, in failure and success alike. That is to say: you should care deeply about your work without conflating work ego with personal ego.

You are
Irrefutably skilled in English grammar, punctuation, structure, etc.
Enthralled by language, clarity, problem-solving, objectivity, and curiosity
A collaborative written communicator with a high degree of skepticism
Skilled at switching rapidly between different style guides, audiences, and voices
Highly media-literate and a sharp, savvy, fast researcher
Good at receiving and giving critical feedback in a constructive, open, active, empathetic way
Able to understand the difference between style and error (or fact and opinion)
Allergic to jargon

We’ll expect you to
Nail deadlines
Edit and proofread written copy for technical and factual accuracy, consistency, clarity, brevity, and tone
Quickly tackle short- and long-form copy, from internal projects to brand-facing external work
Work with a peer Copy Editor to collectively advance the discipline and its processes
Collaborate with low personal ego
Help us hone our overall QA processes
Use legible proofreader marks
Ask questions and share knowledge
You need
A writing portfolio demonstrating both your editing and written work, including your editorial process, for real-world clients
Three-plus years of professional proofreading/editing experience (or comparable experience)
B.A. in English, journalism, communications, or a related field of study (or comparable experience)
Working knowledge of Chicago Style
Familiarity with QA, design, and development processes
Attention to message, detail, quality, organization, and time management in a fast-paced environment
