Under the general supervision of the Curator of Ambassador Animals, the Area Supervisor provides direct supervision of assigned area staff. All variable-schedule staff working with ambassador animals will report directly to this position. Duties include coordinating the activities of the ambassador animal section of the zoo; ensuring that staff in this area have the necessary training, tools, equipment and supplies to successfully perform their jobs; development, implementation, training and oversight of new guest engagement opportunities in the area; administrative functions such as scheduling, timekeeping, evaluations and progressive discipline; ordering, receiving and distributing materials, supplies and food items; facilitating animal care operations within the ambassador animal sections of the zoo; reviewing, developing and/or revising standard operating procedures or other reports; and conducting or coordinating safety training.

A minimum of three years of progressive experience working with ambassador animals and a bachelor's degree in a related field OR any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
• Prior supervisory experience.
• At least two years of experience working in an AZA-accredited facility.
Medical testing and/or immunizations may be required as the duties of this position may require close contact with animal areas and enclosures where animals may be present.
