Close Date: 12/15/2019 is looking for an Illustrator to join our development team! As part of an Agile development team you'll contribute to a wide variety of tasks, but day to day you'll partner with cross-functional teams within to help evolve our brand and student applications through the lens of illustration. You'll craft elegant visual solutions to solve abstract problems and work within your team to bring them to life.

Our Approach to Product Design at

We build web-based software as a service for the K-8 US education market. This includes a Learning Management System for educators and interactive digital content for students.

Our development organization is divided into teams using Agile methodologies (think Scrum or Kanban). Teams are cross-functional and contain User Experience (UX), content designers, multiple engineers as well as dedicated QA, team facilitator, and product owner roles. We also practice a user-centered design philosophy where empathizing with user needs and getting continual feedback is paramount to design and implementation decisions.

Day to day application development involves collaboration between teams, gathering user feedback, creating custom content and animation using Illustrator, Character Animator & After Effects. Scale and optimization are continually evolving as we innovate by leveraging assets between multiple projects.

About the Role

As an Illustrator at, you'll be expected to:

Work closely with product owners, user experience, and development teams to craft simple, elegant solutions to provide an engaging student experience
Collaborate to ensure a consistent and cohesive brand expression through illustration and iconography
Design custom illustrations and assets that represent concepts in K-8 content and help students engage with our product
Ideate on concepts provided by our script writing team and generate storyboards
Create a variety of illustrations to be applied at scale for K-8 student applications and content including scalable backgrounds, sprite sheets, custom characters, props and web assets
Enhance existing characters and create new puppets within Illustrator and Character Animator
Seamlessly blend new illustrations with our existing character style while giving it a refreshed and modern aesthetic
Present your solutions and ideas to product, design, and development stakeholders
Explore a breadth of concepts and articulate their strengths and weakness
Brainstorm and iterate within your team and brand leadership to help elevate and evolve illustration and visual narrative at

To qualify for this role, we recommend these skill requirements:

BA or BFA in Graphic Design, Illustration or a related field or equivalent work experience
A portfolio showcasing high quality, thoughtful illustration work
Art background that shows thorough understanding of layout, design, and strong draftsmanship
Strong storytelling abilities that feature character, emotion, and movement
Ability to analyze scenes in written form and translate into visual product
A track record of strong partnership and delivery through the entirety of a project: from concept to sketch, execution, and delivery
Vector competency with impeccable attention to detail and organization
Ability to illustrate and celebrate diversity of cultures and ideas
Fluent in Photoshop and Illustrator
Able to work quickly, efficiently and multi-task to complete projects, maintaining focus on creativity but keeping deadlines in mind
Must be open to direction and able to embrace change
