Position Summary:
The Online Instructional Coach (OIC) is a non-ranked and non-tenured faculty position within the Online Academic Affairs department. OICs support online instructors teaching for the various online programs offered through Concordia University. OICs are responsible for maintaining a superior online instructional experience for the online instructors through ongoing professional development, best practices support, and mentoring that ensures an exceptional student experience. Primary responsibility is monitoring and mentoring assigned online instructors in accordance with the mission, core themes, and values of Concordia University.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Orient faculty members to Concordia, Concordia’s mission and core themes, Concordia’s philosophy of Lutheran higher education, teaching philosophy, and andragogy in a designated teaching modality.
• Lead a Professional Collaborate (PC) of Concordia online faculty. Serve as champion for a specific program, concentration, or course type.
• Provide oversight, monitoring, and evaluation of teaching. Administer, collect, tabulate, analyze, and report survey results of candidate ratings of course rigor, relevance, practical application, and course objectives.
• Help assure compliance with regional and professional accreditation. Supervise and assist in administering Concordia’s Institutional Research policies and procedures.
• Provide support and mentoring for online faculty including best practices for online teaching and learning
• Maintain record of online course visits, made available to Concordia University, with attention to expected practices, as designated.
• Complete a summary report of discussions/mentoring and provide that summary report to Concordia University.
• Conduct peer reviews with faculty members based on the faculty member’s Instructor Feedback form
• Report unresolved concerns to Concordia University; the Dean or designee of each college is responsible for assessing faculty performance.
• Participate in weekly virtual conference sessions with Concordia University (Online Academic Affairs or colleges) during each cycle in order to:
• Learn specialized content to support instructors
• Review goals for upcoming cycle established by Concordia University
• Decide common topics across PCs
• Share successful experiences
• Provide feedback and recommendations for course and program improvement
• Examine recurring issues
• Provide service to the department or college in various roles that may include, but not limited to:
• Assist in the screening and interviewing process to hire faculty to teach in a designated teaching modality.
• Accreditation work
• Course revisions (rubrics, directions, assignments adjustments)
• Course observation overflow • Investigations for grievances and Incompletes
• Other duties assigned by the department or college

Scope of Work
Work is subject to academic review and supports the execution of strategic initiatives of the University. Acts as a subject matter expert. Keeps leaders informed of results, outcomes and obstacles.

Critical Skills for this position:
Office 365 suite proficiency (Excel, Word, Power Point, Microsoft Outlook, Calendar, Teams, etc.) Remote Network Access (I: drive, access off campus, VPN), Collaborate and any program to support collegiality and office support.

Minimum Physical Requirements:
• Able to be present to teach coursework onsite or in a virtual classroom.
• Able to use technology and administrative software (i.e. Blackboard, Microsoft Office Suite,
• Taskstream, etc.) to enter data, respond to inquiries, and create teaching materials.
• Able to use computer hardware and peripherals as well as office equipment including copiers and scanners.
• Able to communicate effectively in person, in front of audiences, electronically and via telephone.
• Tolerance to repetitive motions including keyboarding and writing.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
• Master’s degree from an accredited university in the field of the assignment. Doctoral degree in academic area closely related to position preferred.
• 5+ years’ experience in teaching or working in private, public or non-profit industry related to coaching position.
• Valid state license and endorsements (where appropriate) in related content area.
